I just hope it's Theo as the actual GM and Byrnes is his highest assistant.

I know they're just titles but I want Epstein in charge of the actual GMing duties.

Seems like it's almost a lateral move for Byrnes (VP of baseball operations presently) but he may just see the Cubs with Theo as a better opportunity.

If Szczur is the best player we give up, I'm definitely fine with it.

Yeah, I'd be sad to lose him because I enjoyed following him last year but I agree.

szczur's not much more than a projected 4th outfielder, right?

He could be a starter, but not one you would build a team around. Some power, not a lot of OBP, and pretty good defense. I would much rather give him up and keep Flaherty. Jackson has too many questions about his health and consistency to be overly concerned with giving him up. Szczur is also the one I feel could be most easily replaced.

Nah, he's better than that. I think his offensive ceiling is somewhere in the area of Carl Crawford with fewer Ks and stolen bases. He plays a pretty solid CF, too.

i doubt that byrnes moves his family, who are greatly entrenched in the california lifestyle.

Bleacher Nation's source has things coming to a conclusion by the start of the World Series (not new info), and the names he's hearing are Jay Jackson, Matt Szczur and Ryan Flaherty--but not all three.

A little more information to add to the growing list...looking like a consensus now.

One of those things is not like the others.

I think people are underselling Szczur a bit in the last page. He's definitely better than the other two names in that short list.

I feel the same way, he's done great work lately. Also recommend Cubs Den and The Cub Reporter (great for Arizona Phil's content).

I don't like giving up Szczur but Brett admitted that those were not set in stone and that they were just names brought up to him, he expects there to be a sleeper type guy involved. He also says he thinks not all 3 of those names will be involved but some mix of those players and a lesser known sleeper type.

I haven't looked at AZ Phil's stuff much, but I pretty much haven't felt like taking him seriously since he told us that Prior looked like he was in 03 form when P&C reported in 07...then we saw him go out and throw 83mph fastballs.

Szczur is probably a top 100 guy for BA. He's a potential Crawford or Ellsbury type guy. Honestly, I don't want to see dealt whatsoever. He showed quite a bit last year in his first season of just concentrating on baseball. If he's dealt, it's something that could really come back to haunt us. Flaherty and Jay Jackson don't have the ability to make us really regret trading them at this point, if you ask me.

I definitely don't want to see Szczur go, but I could live with it. His ceiling is higher than that of a guy like Brett Jackson, but he's a few levels away, and Bjax is a safer bet to be at least an average big leaguer, and sooner.

I'd prefer not to give Matt up, but if that is what it takes in the end, so be it. If that is indeed what it will take, I definitely think that limits what else they can ask for, though. Any other prospects would have to be fringe or throw in.

Sczcur is a real prospect, but he's not a great prospect. The Cubs have Brett Jackson and Dunston in CF, so they're not without talent At CF. I'd like it if the Cubs could hang on to him, but it's not like it would a huge loss.

He doesn't have some of the contact issues Jackson has and he has better speed and is better defensively.

but he's not as patient and doesn't have jackson's power. those are the attributes i like best.

OPS? Especially, slugging. I don't really know what ceiling means but I would bet heavily that Jackson has a better, longer MLB career.
