Johnson put up 1,120 yards and 12 (really 13, lol) TD's last year with Shaun Hill and Drew Stanton throwing to him most of the year.

He's on pace for 1,504 and 24 this year (jesus christ) with Stafford.

Marshall put up 1,325 and 6 in his best year with Jay Cutler (that was the year before Eddie Royal came on the scene)... He had the one nice year (his best in terms of TDs, with 10, his only double digit TD season) with Orton and has been OK in Miami with crappy QB's, but still not as good as what CJ did last year with crap.

Johnson is basically an unstoppable scoring machine that Marshall hasn't even come close to matching outside of one season.

EDIT - If you want me to be fair and figure in Marshall's pace this year, it's 1350 yards and 3-4 TDs.

Yeah, I definitely like Brandon Marshall but he's not in the same league as Megatron. CJ is a physical specimen, the likes or which only come around once every other decade. He is just built to be a fantastic WR.

i should've sniffed that out much sooner.

no doubt he's having a great season, if he actually finishes with more than 20 tds and 1,500 yards, that will be remarkable.

i don't think people realize what a specimen marshall is, he's virtually the same height and weight as johnson, but more like terrell owens in build, physique, and strength.

the big knock on marshall are drops and touchdowns. the two things that hold him back as a great receiver.

What's the record for single season reception TDs?

So you admit Marshall has shortcomings that hold him back from becoming a great receiver, yet claim an argument can be made he is better than Calvin. Yeah, trolling.

chocobot's good, but i don't see what makes him super duper special as far as really good wide receivers go. he's having a great season, no doubt, it remains to be seen if he can keep it up.

Calvin Johnson is much faster than Marshall. Marshall is not a big downfield threat and is more of a possession guy that CJ is. Marshall is more TO, while Johnson is more Moss. Completely different WRs. But pretty good. But Johnson has much more ability to dominant and has shown that.

aside from his ability to grab a jump ball, i don't see how he's more "dominant", seems like this megatron hype nonsense.

Look above. Faster + downfield threat = more dominant. Plus, it's not like Calvin couldn't catch 100 if Detroit used him in that way. It's not like I'm comparing him to DeSean Jackson who is never going to be an 80 catch WR.

i think faster and downfield threat are pretty redundant, you can't count them as two separate attributes. if you want to go the speed route then fine, but marshall is a superior route runner, which, as a wide receiver, is more important than speed. also, marshall is a more physical and stronger. i'm not trying to say marshall is clearly better, but the argument can be made--even in the face of the megatron nonsense.

Marshall is not more physical, nor is he stronger. Granted, it's probably marginal, but Johnson is slightly bigger and appears much more defined muscularly. And I also think you overrate Marshall's route running. Neither Marshall nor Calvin are Greg Jennings or Jerry Rice out there. And the argument can be made that Marshall is better, but that argument is pretty much wrong.
