goony doesn't get to start the thread because the season went all to crap under his watch.

the line will be like bears by three or some junk since we aren't very good and we are at home.

if we want to win, someone on offense besides cutler and forte should probably have a good game. if the defense would like to show up against AD, that would probably be a good idea. mcnabb is a disaster, if he beats us, i quit the team.

the season is like 75% over as it stands. if we lose this game, we might as well root for the team to lose out.

Well, this had to be a 3-win month going into it. Still possible to do. Not the desired way to go 3-1 (would've liked the division win), but can still get 3 conference wins, and a win vs. TB in London could be a huge factor in the NFC wildcard.

The division is out of the question. 10 wins doesn't assure the playoffs, but should be attainable if they correct some obvious flaws and beat the teams they are supposed to beat.

Vikings, Bucs, Bye, Eagles....that's a winnable stretch. But this team is very seriously flawed. I'm really read for Angelo to go.

Thank you, finally somebody stepped up. The only reason I start them is because I'm sick of discussing the crap game and want to move on.

It is a 3 point line right now.

I HATE PRIMETIME GAMES. I want to sleep and regular Sunday games are the perfect excuse to get day drunk and asleep by 9.

Preach it, man. Primetime games suck.

Bears aren't gonna lose at home to the Vikings. I think they hold AP pretty much in check.

23-17 Bears -- though Jared Allen does have like 8 sacks or something already.

Lovie Smith is 5-2 coming off MNF games and 4-0 at home.

They're going to hold AP in check after failing to hold D'Angelo "60 rushing yards in the first 3 games" Williams and Javad Best in check?

actually, yes they probably will.

I understand the argument that they will load the box to stop him since McNabb has a wet noodle for an arm these days, but I don't trust the Bears to stop any RBs these days.

We got our answer last night: the Bears are at best #3 in the division.

So all that's left is that elusive Wild Card berth from 3rd place. Not easy to do. I know it's early in the season, but gentlemen, these two teams ahead of us aren't kidding around and aren't going away.

Any hope left lies with taking care of the Vikings, relegating them to last place for the remainder of the year, and then setting our sights on being consistent enough to unseat challengers from other divisions for that final WC spot.

Posted

Which isn't that impossible.

NFC West is not getting a WC team

NFC East involves the 1-4 Eagles, the 2-2 Cowboys who have horrifically blown 2 games and appear to be in turmoil, the 2-2 Giants who just lost at home to the Seahawks, and the 3-1 Redskins who havent seemed too impressive despite being 3-1.

NFC South involves the Saints running away with the division and the 2-3 Falcons who appear to be directionless and the Bears hold the tiebreaker over, and the 3-2 Bucs who don't seem to have a lot of offense and the Bears have a chance to win the tiebreaker over as well.

So you're basically hoping that the Bears finish better than Cowboys/Redskins/Giants/Saints/Bucs. It's not unlikely that a 9-7 team gets a wild card spot out of the NFC.

All that said, the Bears have to play a ton better to even be in this discussion in December.

It's early, but I'm already giving the South to the Saints. The Bucs showed on Sunday that they have no business winning that division and the Falcons have seemingly taken a step back as well.

You're right, the chances of the Bears snagging the 6th seed really aren't that bad. We haven't played well, but keep in mind that our three losses have come against teams with a combined record of 14-1. Packers, Saints, and Lions are clearly the best three in the NFC, and probably all among the Top 5 teams in the NFL. 9 or even 10 wins is not out of the question yet, and by looking at the schedule you'll see why...really soft toward the end. People just need to relax, we're losing to amazing teams. If we lose this Sunday then everyone, including myself, will hit the panic button.

Should we grab the 6th seed, our likely opponent will be the 49ers or the winner of the East. Maybe Rex. :stickman:

Yep, been saying it for a few weeks now. The division is probably over (probably was anyway), and 6th seed is about all there is left to play for. Beat Tampa (neutral site game, should be pro Bears crowd) and the Eagles (After the Bears bye week) and the Bears should have a leg up on the competition. Don't really know what to expect from those NFC East teams. All have had ugly wins and uglier losses....kinda like the Bears. The Giants have a nasty stretch coming up that includes (NE, @ SF, Philly, @ NO, and GB). And honestly, I'm rooting for them to take a more than a few losses in that group. As a fan, it doesn't scare me at all to go to San Francisco, Washington, or Dallas in the first round of the playoffs. And after that, you're looking at going to Detroit, Green Bay, or New Orleans....all places the Bears have/will go this year.

Long way away, but the season can be salvaged. For as bad as this team is, I truly believe they are as good (or better) than every team left on their schedule other than Detroit and Green Bay, and one of them the Bears get at home.

Time for Lovie & Martz to have their annual "OK, your old Rams offense *still* isn't going to work, please just run good plays" meeting.

Then we'll start winning again.

Only problem is, this year Lovie probably needs to have a new annual meeting with Marinelli: the "your D line kind of sucks so do something about it" meeting.

It's all about having the right meetings, man.

will McNabb play? There is talk of benching him. if they do bench him

Vikings 24

Bears 13

Cutler dies. [expletive] you angelo

Yes he'll definitely start this week even though he's been awful. The only reason for any optimism on my end is that the DE's have been a force as pass rushers this year, Allen in particular. The OL looked the best they have in a long time last week but they're still not good.

Musgrave runs a lot of 2 and sometimes 3 TE sets in base but McNabb hasn't been able to get Rudolph or Shank the ball enough. Jenkins has caught most everything thrown his way but Percy is still the only real threat outside of Aromashodu's occasional bursts now that he's getting more snaps.

The secondary has been better than expected but they've gotten killed over the middle and underneath in these awful second halves.

Overall it seems like the Vikings havent played that bad despite the 1-4 record. They hung with the Chargers despite a lack of offense, they could have and maybe should have beat TB, they had a 20 point lead on Detroit and while a bad loss, the Chiefs have gotten it back together a little bit.

Are the Vikings just unlucky and better than their record, do they just have a fatal flaw that kills them in these games, or are they just plain bad?

Posted

My feeling is that the Vikings will remain a threat even though they won't make the playoffs. They'll likely find some kind of pseudo-rhythm; it won't be enough to challenge for the post season, but a few teams will be surprised when they expected to win and wind up getting beat (probably because APete goes off on them).

Hopefully it isn't us who feels that pain.

It's just been bizarre. They completely dominated the Bucs and Lions in the first half. They outgained the Bucs 284-62. I mean that's absurd. It was something similar like 230-80 at half against the Lions when they were up 20-0.

They've outscored opponents 89-19 in the first half this year. The defense has been dominating in those halves as has the run game. Then in the second half they get beaten underneath and over the middle repeatedly, give up a couple big plays and cannot pick up any first downs. They got to something like 1-19 on 3rd downs in second halves.

Time to be positive Bear fans.

Cubs just got Theo. Karma is shifting our way!!

We're going to beat the Vikings handily Sunday night. Peppers finds his groove, Urlacher another INT. Tillman will cause a timely fumble or two. Happiness!

Peppers probably shouldn't even see the field on Sunday. I'd be tempted to let him rest his knee until after the bye week. Last thing we need is his injury getting more serious.
