Not sure why the other thread is locked, but I feel this series of events wasn't addressed enough following the last game. That was as bad as I've ever seen Lovie and Lovie is as dumb as any professional coach can be.

From the deadspin jambaroo "coach on the hot seat" section.

Oh wow, Lovie Smith. I say this knowing full well I'd manage to accidentally blow up the team bus if I were a head coach, but holy [expletive] Lovie is braindead. He had the Bears try and draw the Lions offside on fourth down. Then, when that failed, he had the offense take a timeout, then trotted them back out and WENT FOR IT. All he had to do to avoid wasting a timeout was have his team run a [expletive] play if the hard count failed. Then, when the Bears got stoned, he CHALLENGED the spot and wasted another timeout. It was breathtaking. Even Andy Reid was flabbergasted, and Andy Reid has a lot of flab to gast.

the Harris pick up was fine. he played well last year. who gives a [expletive] about the hype, its not like we paid him Polamalu money.

I don't care, I was just commenting about how he wasn't all that good and somebody got all pissy about it.

I remember when I was trying to get twitter updates about Lebron's pending free agency last year and I couldn't find it in the ocean of chatter about Chris Harris being on the trading block.

Yeah, I was none too happy about that series of events. And the sad part of it is that it's become typical Lovie type coaching. Of course, I'm still a bit bitter about the last few possessions of the game, as well. Out of time outs, you need to conserve as much time as possible. Where were the first down ball spikes? They're back there calling plays with time winding down, not paying attention at all to the fact that you can stop the clock with a quick ball spike. Precious time was lost. And that's ignoring that as soon as they got within field goal range, they could have spiked the ball again and brought out the kicking team for a field goal. You had to score twice. It made all the sense in the world to try to gather the quick three when you got in range and then see if you could field the onside kick.

I'm mostly joking but when you spike the ball, you lose a down. When 1 out of every 3 plays is a sack and 1 out of every 3 plays the receiver runs the wrong route and the pass sails over everyone, then it only leaves you 1 legit chance to move the ball for a 1st down.

yea, but you arent going to loose any yards. running a play and taking a sack will be a worse result.

Option A:

Get sacked

Spike Ball

Result: 3rd and 17, clock stopped

Option B:

Spike Ball

Get sacked

Resule: 3rd and 17, clock ticking.

Option C:

Spike ball.

Spike Ball.

3rd and 2, clock stopped. Kick 72 yrd field goal.

god knows the others wont work, might as well try something new

Wait, how are we gaining 2 yards on spiked balls?

Also, we both got to include false start penalties in there.

Were you watching the last series? They were moving the ball down the field quite well. There was one play that was a sideline pass that stopped the clock, but most everything else was up the middle. With no time outs left and it's first down, the common sense play is to spike the ball when you get that first down instead of setting up and calling a play and going into the normal snap count and wasting probably an extra 10 seconds worth of valuable time.

Basically, they were running that series as if there were 3 or 4 minutes left in the game rather than 1 minute. When there is such little time left in the game and no time outs, you have to be as wise as possible when managing the clock. Probably wouldn't have mattered anyway, but was just another example of poor coaching on Lovie's part, IMO.

Those are some good ideas. I would add getting Cutler out of the pocket by design but I don't think those exist in Martz's playbook.

I just hope Houston tanks again and we can hire Kubiak as OC.

he was good last year and he's been hurt this year. i think he was rushed back because the other guys are not worthy of being on a roster.

In other words, rushed back because we suck and have no answers.

Conte is slow. I don't think he's a starting caliber S in the NFL. Harris was probably rushed and while he's not great, he's the best Bears safety when healthy.

Apparently there are rumblings Paea will be active this Sunday too.

Broncos are looking to deal Brandon Lloyd.

I'm not saying... I'm just saying.

I doubt it. We had Brandon Lloyd 3 years ago and they could have resigned him if they wanted to. I know he has all the sudden gotten good but I doubt theyd have interest in him.

that's a scary thought, from all reports, Paea has no business on a football field.
