Did I mention that I hate the angels?

I like them quite a bit now myself. best case scenario for us, as far as I'm concerned.

I feel pretty comfortable in saying that neither of this year's World Series teams will be heading back next year.

They said that about the Rangers after they lost Cliff Lee.

But now they don't have Cliff Lee, and their new best pitcher and the best player in baseball went to their rival.

Getting Wilson at a reasonable rate makes the pujols deal more manageable and increases their chances of extra bank from playoff home games. I don't care about the pujols deal; I didn't want to pay him that much that long. But I'd have paid Wilson at least this contract. Sounds like he took less than he could have made to play in LA.

If Harren and Weaver have the same years they had last year, that's definitely a filthy rotation. Rangers still have a lot of room for improvement in house with young pitchers continuing their natural career arc and Feliz moving to the rotation. They're also the reported front runners for Darvish. The Angels finished 10 games behind the Rangers last year, so they'll need Pujols to be more of the 8+ WAR player he's been over his career than the 5.4 WAR he was last year.

Well, this makes me feel better about it.

Rosenthal:

C.J. did no decide until 530 am. Agent Bob Garber says he "easily" could have gotten 100M. #Marlins and Loria "would not let it go." #MLB

I wish Loria would let go. of a pin from a grenade.

I'm not exaclty fond of using WAR this way . . . however, not only did the Angels add 10.4 WAR (Pujols 5.4; Wilson 5) from last year, the Rangers lost 5 WAR (Wilson). Not factoring in the WAR values of the players Pujols/Wilson are replacing -- because, frankly, I'm unsure how the Angels lineup will shake out -- the Angels just grossed over 15 WAR against the Rangers.

I'm depressed. Pujols off the market, Wilson off the market at a really good price, Flaherty gone in the Rule 5 (don't really care about Gonzalez). I'm just going to have to blindly trust Theo at this point, but I'm far less than enthused so far.

I'm not jealous over what Pujols was paid, even though I'd admittedly be ecstatic if we got him, regardless of cost. The Wilson deal was a price nobody else was going to get, so no reason to fret over that.

I would have vomited if we signed Pujols to that contract and Wilson would never have given us that discount.

While I certainly would have jumped for joy if we had gotten Wilson at THAT price, it was never going to happen. If we had paid over 100 mill for him, which we would have had to do, I'd have been pissed. Fielder, Darvish, and Cespedes are all still out there and I think we'll get one of them.

I would've been ok but not thrilled with what Pujols got. I realize we wouldn't have gotten Wilson at the price the Angels got him at and if it really would've taken $100+ million I'm ok with missing on him, but it still hurts to miss out on him.

Prince has almost become a necessity at this point (unless he goes to Seattle and we can grab Smoak) and I think we really need Darvish now as well. I'm really doubtful we can afford both, however, since Darvish will cost the salary plus the up front posting fee.

Cubs need Darvish and Fielder.

And Soler.

Yes, this would sate me.

I'd be fine with that. I could also be sated by adding Darvish/Smoak/Headley/Soler, but obviously that would entail the Mariners signing Prince.

Despite my feelings on Wilson as far as what I thought he'd get being the best pitcher on the market, I think that is a good deal for the Angels.

Is that the market rate for a strong average pitcher?

Given what previous pitchers last year rec'd as well as what the Marlins paid this year, I think it's a good deal for Anaheim. Yes, for a pitcher that projects to be a strong avg. (57-60 on the OFP scale).
