Maybe, maybe not. CJ's from California so maybe he's going to give them a shot he's not willing to give anyone else.

Possible. Though people thought he'd give the Rangers a discount and stay there, but he was asking 6/120 from there, reportedly.

Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York writes that the chances of the Yankees signing C.J. Wilson are "close to less than five percent."

In fact, Wilson's agent Bob Garber recently requested a visit with the Yankees in the Bronx, but was turned down. The free agent left-hander is expected to get a big-money contract this winter as the best pitcher on the market, but it doesn't appear as though it will come from the Bombers.

I like the Nationals and I hope they achieve success, but I really hate that because of who they are they need to overpay for premier free agents and, in return, really screw up the FA market

9:26pm: Wilson has offers from the Angels, Marlins, and two other clubs, sources tell Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com (via Twitter).

No clue if the Cubs are one of the "two other clubs" but I hope we are.

If we're going to add a big ticket guy this offseason, a hitter is my priority. There won't be anyone like Pujols or Fielder available next offseason. Pitching will have Cain, Danks, Greinke, Hamels, Liriano, Marcum, McCarthy, and Sanchez. Not all will make it to FA, but some will and that's enough for me to think Pujols or Fielder is much more important for us this offseason, even though pitching seems like the bigger need. Hell, I could see us adding one of this pitching group at the deadline even.

CJ means no pujols, probably no fielder if thats the kind of cash we're talking

The Cubs have the money available to bring in both Wilson and one of Pujols/Prince, if they choose to go that route. They may well choose not to do that, but I'm still hoping they do. We have plenty of role players coming up through the system, but we have no stars and Wilson/Pujols/Prince are stars.

That said, if the choice is between Wilson or Pujols/Prince, I definitely prefer Pujols/Prince.

This will another case of a #2/3 starter getting paid to be a #1 starter simply b/c he is the best FA arm (excluding Jarvish).

I'd take numbers not existing just so I didn't have to hear about how a guy is a certain # starter rather than a different # starter.

Well, I'd be ok with it if what was meant by them was a realistic portrayal of what the average 1st, 2nd, 3rd starter etc. is in the game, but really it's completely arbitrary, and guys that are as/more productive than most #1's get labeled as 2's and crap like that.

The last two years, there are eight pitchers that have been more productive than Wilson. Eight. He's been better than Lester, Lincecum, Carpenter, Greinke, Gallardo, Cain, Ubaldo, Price, and Hamels.

You got to nd base? Loser, I got to rd base with her last week!

You're right. This is better.

So you support paying the going rate for Wilson or are you just refuting this point. Bc I'd be hesitant to dole out what'll cost to sign Wilson unless we can afford the possible negative side effects of this and one of the big 1b targets.

I was speaking more to the numbered starter stuff, although I like Wilson a lot. I wouldn't give him 9 figures though.

@Ken_Rosenthal Sources tell me and @jonmorosi that #Cubs have spoken with agent for C.J. Wilson and are trying to gauge the market. #MLB

CJ supposedly has a 6 year offer on the table from someone. Didn't see that mentioned yet.

If true that makes me a bit wary. Even at an $18 million AAV, that's $108 mil in total value - more than I'd like to pay for him. I'd be begrudgingly okay with going to 6 years, but I'd have to be able to cut the money some (maybe $15 AAV, making the entire deal worth $90 mil?).

The big question here is what is that 6 year offer worth?
