So, this pretty much means Mike Quade's getting the boot.

I was just about to post something similar. Wonder if this means Sandberg will be back in the mix. I think it's pretty well known that Sandberg and Hendry certainly weren't in the same clique.

What else is on the organization wish list for this makeover?

1) Sign a foundational player in Pujols/Fielder

2) Bring in a GM with a balanced approach between scouting/stats

3) Replace Fleita and overhaul the player development process

4) Retain Wilken, if possible

Awesome. Now who to hire? Theres plenty of candidates. I'm goig Friedman, Cashman, Chrrigton, Oppenheimer, Hahn, most everyone else.

This is no offnee to Hendry...alot of dumb things happened but overall were not in too bad a spot.

Someone started celebrating already! :D

But why was he told on 7/22 and allowed to work until now?

Hendry is by every account a very trustworthy guy. I'm sure Ricketts wanted to let him know as soon as the decision was made, but asked him to stay on board until he got the draft class signed.

Official Press Release:

CUBS DISMISS GENERAL MANAGER JIM HENDRY

RANDY BUSH NAMED INTERIM GENERAL MANAGER

FRIDAY, AUGUST 19, 2011

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today have dismissed Jim Hendry as General Manger. Assistant General Manager Randy Bush has been named Interim General Manager.

“My family and I appreciate Jim’s dedication during our time with the Cubs and thank him for his overall 17 years of service to the Cubs organization,” said Ricketts. “It is time for a fresh approach in our baseball leadership and our search begins immediately for our next general manager.”

Hendry, 56, was named Vice President/General Manager on July 5, 2002 and departs as the third-longest tenured general manager in the National League. He is the only general manager in franchise history to oversee three post-season clubs (2003, 2007, 2008) and is the first Cubs general manager to lead the franchise to consecutive post-season berths. Hendry is the third-longest-tenured general manager in franchise history behind John Holland (1957-75) and James Gallagher (1940-49).

Overall, Hendry’s clubs went 749-748 during his time as general manager. He joined the organization in November, 1994 as the club’s director of player development. After one year in that role, he added the title of scouting director and served in the dual role through the 1998 season when he was promoted to assistant general manager.

Prior to the Cubs, Hendry spent three seasons in the Florida Marlins organization (1992-94) and eight seasons as the head coach of the Creighton Blue Jays, where he was named the 1991 National Coach of the Year after leading Creighton to a third-place finish in the College World Series.

Bush, 52, has been the assistant general manager with the Cubs for the last five seasons. He joined the Cubs for the second time on January 26, 2005 as a special assistant to the general manager and was promoted to assistant general manager December 20, 2006. Bush also worked for the Cubs in 1999 as minor league hitting coordinator. Between stints with the Cubs, Bush served as the head baseball coach at his alma mater, the University of New Orleans, from 2000-04.

A two-time World Champion with the Minnesota Twins (1987 and 1991) as a first baseman/outfielder, Bush played all 12 big league seasons with the Twins from 1982-93 after being selected in the second round of the 1979 Draft.

Note To Media: Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts will hold a press conference today in Wrigley Field’s Interview Room at approximately 11:15 a.m. A 2011 Cubs season media credential will be required for admittance to the press conference. If a daily media credential is needed, please contact Dani Holmes-Kirk (dholmes@cubs.com) in the Cubs media relations department.

Agreed 100% with 1, 2, and 3. I'm 50/50 on #4. Wilken has been hampered in the past by budget constraints and this team has had a lot of issues with player development, so I'm willing to give him a bit of a pass on his drafts prior to this season. However, the number of high quality players that have come from his drafts has been noticeably lacking in this system. Off the top of my head, Brett Jackson is pretty much the highest rated and best-regarded prospect his drafts have produced so far. That's really not saying much in his favor.

I feel like the Cubs could improve on Wilken. It'd be nice to keep him, but I wouldn't be sad to see him leave.

Haven't read all 6 pages, but I wonder how much pretty much doing nothing at the deadline had to do with Hendry knowing his days are numbered.

Steve Stone on WSCR making absolutely no sense equating old mediocre doctors and young hot shots with old baseball people and sabermetrics people.

But he apparently would prefer some younger "modern" guy who will surround himself with old guys who know what a 24 year old looks like in comparison to a 25 year old.

You really should read the whole thread. Goony has started drinking and I've never seen him like this.

There's nothing more beautiful than checking Twitter and seeing a screen ful of updates on Hendry being fired when you had no idea it had happened.

Has he brought up a slider, low and away? Because everything he says that isn't that is wrong.
