He walked just 9 times in July and August, but counting the first three innings today, he has 6 walks in 13 september games (and counting) to just 3 strike outs.

since the start of August he's hit .318/.366/.473, and held a 25 HR, 50 BB, 36 SB (and 226 H) full season pace

Gentlemen, hide your boners.

There are those Hanley Ramirez-esque numbers we were all praying for. I sure hope he can carry this pace into the next season

Castro got his 199th hit today. Safe to say he will get to 200. Overall a very good year for him as he has shown power and consistency (hasn't had any prolonged cold streaks or times where he has looked consistently bad/over matched at the plate) the only thing offensively that would have made it better would be to have seen a few more walks which has been addressed on here already. Hopefully the defense improves as it isn't a lack of skill or talent but more tuning his mechanics and maybe improving a bit mentally. :good:

So is he going to be playing 3B next year?

I think he gets another year. I can't see a new GM coming in and immediately moving the franchise player to a new position without having watched him for a full season and seeing whether he improves.

Man, if he could be a legit 25 HR guy and Junior Lake or one of the other up the middle guys figures it out, that would be huge for being able to fill in some other holes after next year. Although if ARam gets signed, it won't matter much after next year.

It kind of ticked me off that the brewers walked Castro twice yesterday... not too much, just a little. I didn't see the pitches in the non-intentional walk, but it was nice that he was patient up there while being 1 hit shy of 200.

that's weird. for what reason? i like the cesepadas line at the bottom. haha. leg pressing the whole list

When there's organizational news they tend to attach it to the team's best player since they don't have pages for executives. Most of the Cubs news about Theo and managers and any front office decisions have generally been attached to Starlin's Rotoworld page

that'd explain markakis' inclusion, then, too

I thought about looking for this thread the other day to post this...This is August of his age 21 season:

Pretty much everything about this guy says star to superstar in the future. :20 in he absolutely rips a 92 MPH fastball in on his hands...

yeah, the one thing that i consistently was in awe of castro for was bat speed, and that he continually bettered his ability to stay back on the pitch as long as possible for the best result achievable; to me that self-awareness is so encourage-able of things to come as he fills out (which he was doing a good deal of in those last couple months).

It's stunning to see a player as good as him come from our farm system....how good would he have been if he had come up with better minor league instruction?

His redeeming grace was the fact that he is unteachable!

I think having English as a second language my have helped him a lot.

Anyway, it's hard to screw up the natural gifts he has. It will be up to him as to how good he can become.
