Texas has never wanted anything to do with SEC, crappy academics and the worst history of cheating of any other conference.

I didn't realize the Big 12 was an academic powerhouse.

It has more to do with how many players per year for Saban can ask for special permission to be accepted into school. Even Clowney admitted that growing up a Texas fan he wouldn't be able to qualify academically and never was even recruited. There are several HS kids in Texas that UT won't recruit like Trey Metoyer last season, who committed to OU yet couldn't pass the required Juco classes to get in there and is now going to a military prep school for a year.

I love how far some peoples' heads go up their own asses when it comes to the academic gravitas of an athletic conference.

Yeah, I don't really concern myself with that. Just because other schools in the same conference may be a third tier academic institution doesn't mean it's going to bring us down any. Our president referenced the fact that Rice doesn't have any issues playing in Conference USA, which isn't known for their high academic standards.

Wouldn't Vanderbilt have been a much better example considering they're actually in the SEC? Oh yeah, they're not from Texas so who [expletive] cares.

Ecokat is fantastic. What a job by their marketing department.

You can always count on KSU's marketing dept to come up with the lamest, most amateurish ideas possible. Power Towels, Eco Enforcers, Decade of Dominance DVDs, "The Octagon of Doom."

Or maybe he didn't want to insult the [expletive] conference we are about to join. Makes sense, no?

So referencing Rice being in a shitty academic conference and doing just fine was a total non-sequitur?

I really hate the one PPV game a year in the SEC. All this buildup to the first week of the season and Tennessee/Montana is on PPV - meaning I won't get to see Tennessee's first game live til next Saturday.

No local watering holes picking up the telecast?

I don't know which places around here pick up PPV games. I'm not a drinker so I'm not familiar with any bars in the area and the only restaurant places near me are Shoney's and Ruby Tuesday.

I'll probably end up listening on the radio to the UT game and watching LSU/Oregon on mute.

I can pretty much promise any sports bar in your area will be showing the game. You also aren't required to drink to sit at a bar and watch sports (honestly, it's not that unusual -- you just better buy other stuff and perhaps make a joke about not drinking/promise to tip well). Of course, if you hate being around drunk people . . .

No, but he's not directly talking about how bad the SEC may be in academics, which wouldn't be a wise thing for him to do in that situation.

Why address it at all? If people won't shut up about it, why not say something along the lines of the SEC having many fine schools, such as Vanderbilt, Florida, and Tennessee to name 3. Then send some shout out to University of Mississippi being ranked #3 for needlepoint or something.

Because he was answering a direct question. It wasn't like he decided to bring it up on his own.

I hope something like this happens solely because it means that Iowa State would be closer to going to a non-BCS conference which would be hilarious.

Didn't Vince Young get a 6?

yeah, which more or less means you're an abject moron. No one should be surprised that Pryor is an idiot

How do Iowa & Iowa St keep a decent rivalry considering one of them never wins?

Though I guess this was true with ND and a bunch of schools up until a few years ago.
