Damn that Paterno for not scheduling Oregon to start the year before playing Alabama the following week!! What a wimp! And what a weak rest of schedule too! I mean, finishing the year vs. Nebraska @ Ohio St and @ Wisconsin??? What, scared to schedule Iowa the week before that or something, Joe? Whats your angle, playing them so early in the year? And no Michigan on the schedule AT ALL?!! With this amount of cupcakes on the schedule, anything less than 10-2 will be a joke! A joke I tell ya!

Thanks for listing the KU game as one "of interest." I guess I'm interested to see if/how much Berglund plays.

Berglund won't be playing. He'll prob RS. Webb will be the starter with Cummings/Meachum backing him up. If Berglund had been here in Spring it might have been a different story, but I think he's too far behind. I've always thought Cummings was the better prospect anyway, assuming his knee is better.

Nevermind, Andy, remove it from the games of interest list.

Nothing will prepare them for Alabama better than Indiana St. You're so right.

Malcolm Williams quit Texas yesterday for personal issues. Meaning Jordan Shipley's little bro is going to be getting a whole lot of reps as a true freshman.

right, they should play oregon so they could be 0-2 instead of 1-1 after 2 games.

Who the [expletive] said they should play Oregon? How about Virginia or Ole Miss or Oregon St.? Why does it have to be 1-AA or Top 5 team?

those teams are probably busy playing other bad teams.

besides making derwood happy, there's really not much upside to playing a team they could lose to instead of a gimme win.

the "gimme win" and "small schools getting a million dollars to lose" part of the system is bogus. It's why schools shouldn't be allowed to do their own scheduling

that's silly. schools are independent bodies and should be able to schedule (out of conference) however they want.

you also seem to be ignoring the good that these games do for penn state (extra home game = crapload of revenue = provide scholarships, good facilities, etc for non-revenue sports) and indiana state (several hundred thousand dollars goes a long way toward supporting most of the athletic department at a small school). sure, if your only concern is wanting to watch an additional good football game or two a year, then they're "bad for football." otherwise, the arguments against them are stupid.

We would lose a lot of football programs as a result. Of course everyone should be allowed to schedule their non-conference games.

It's not but there is really not a good way to divide 4 games between 116 or so 1A schools. And for these smaller schools the exposure is just as important as the money and for the kids of the smaller schools too.

I would like to see the bigger schools forced to play A home and home series when scheduling these games too.

for what purpose? why make, say, penn state play a game at indiana st in front of like 10,000 people? psu isn't going to pay for a road game, indiana state's athletic department gets more money from getting paid to go play at psu, and psu's athletic department gets more money from hosting a home game in front of 100,000.

really, between conference play and the 1-2 good OOC games that big-time programs play, there is more than enough good college football to go around. if a team plays a joke non-conference schedule every year, presumably they'll be punished by the pollsters and the computers.

i think most of the griping comes not because people care about fairness, but because they just want to watch their team play interesting games every week. that's fine, but you have to be aware that there's more that goes into it than just entertaining people.

Bragging....

Looks like I will have a nephew as the starting TE at Southern Illinois this year, as a redshirt freshman. Caught 4 passes for about 70 yards in the spring game with the #1s. Got another nephew who is a freshman WR on the #1 Oklahoma Sooners team (probably will redshirt).

This has got to be one of the dumbest ideas I've ever read on these boards.

You've got real issues if you look at a schedule including Alabama, Nebraska, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Iowa and the potential to play a Michigan or Michigan State and say, "what, is that it?" Time to take a break from the Playstation.

Awesome, even the OU one ;-). Is he from Texas?

Then schedule a lower tier Division I school. Division I-AA wins shouldn't count towards bowl eligibility

It's just not always that simple.

Yep, from Arlington.
