Looks like the status has been changed to Indians very close to aquiring Kosuke. Let the fun begin.

Indians Very Close To Acquiring Kosuke Fukudome

By Tim Dierkes [July 28 at 8:47am CST]

The Indians are in serious talks for Cubs right fielder Kosuke Fukudome, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. The deal is "very close to happening," tweets Danny Knobler of CBS Sports. With Shin-Soo Choo and Grady Sizemore on the DL, the Tribe has a clear need for outfield help.

Fukudome, 34, is hitting .273/.374/.369 in 345 plate appearances for the Cubs this year. Though his right field defense drew praise initially, he's been below-average per UZR over the last few years. Since Fukudome is owed almost $4.7MM for the balance of the season, the Cubs will likely have to kick in money to make a deal happen. He cannot be offered arbitration after the season, so draft pick compensation is not a factor. Fukudome has a limited no-trade clause, but it's not known which teams are on it.

I really thought he was closer to an .800ish OPS.

Zach McAllister would be nice for Kosuke and his compensation pick. Moving a little lower, Scott Barnes is an intriguing guy too.

If I'm not mistaken, part of Kosuke's current contract states teams aren't allowed to offer him arbitration so if my interpretation of the situation is accurate, I don't think keeping Fukudome and receiving a compensation pick this offseason is even an option.

That's right, and Kosuke would probably accept anyway since he isn't getting 10+ million from anyone else. Still, McAllister is the guy I'm aiming for.

That's correct. (or, at least, that's what MLB trade rumors says)

Buster Olney of ESPN.com hears that the Cubs will get two prospects from the Indians in exchange for outfielder Kosuke Fukudome.

The identities of the players aren't yet known, but since the Cubs are covering more than half of the $4.7 million left on Fukudome's contract, there's a good chance they'll get something of value in return. Olney expects a deal to get done "by gametime" on Thursday.

Paul Hoynes says that the Indians gave up two prospects; 1 upper level, and 1 lower level. He also says that it is 1 pitcher and 1 position player.

Prospects #Indians giving up for Fukudome: one upper level, one lower level.

#Indians prospects going to Cubs for Fukudome include one pitcher, one position player.

I have a bad feeling this will be for 2 players in the 15-20 range for the tribe or the dreaded "players to be named".

I can't imagine Kosuke's value will be any higher than 2 players in the 15-20 range. I bet it will be lower than that, but I would be pretty happy to get 2 decent prospects back.

We did rather well for ourselves last time we received mid-level prospects from the Indians.

I wonder if upper-level and lower-level are referring to their leagues (i.e. AAA and low A) or their status as a prospect (i.e. B & C)

You dread getting 2 top 20 prospects for Kosuke? That would be fantastic. I'm expecting two raw projects with poor stats.

This may be a dumb question on my part and I offer my apologies in advance...but it bothers me that instead of getting one top 10 guy in a trade like this we seem to settle for two guys in the 15-20 range. Maybe I'm a fool but I would much rather get one guy with a good chance at reaching his projections than two guys with a lesser chance.
