From MLBTR Chat:

Rumors here in DFW today that the Rangers may be talking with the Cubs, Chris Davis and Julio Borbon to CHI for Sean Marshall and Marlon Byrd. Have you heard anything??

2:27 I have not, though the idea of the Cubs and Davis has come up before. Not sure whether they want to leave 1B open for a potential FA though. Although Davis can play some other positions and they do not have a 3B after this year.

I would hope Marshall isn't in any trade talks, but I'd love to get Davis.

Would be nice to get something for Byrd and we've been linked to Davis before. I wouldn't wanna trade Marshall, though. As expendable as relievers are, he's been pretty valuable and is still relatively cheap. I wouldn't not trade him, but it had better be for a better return than Chris Davis and Julio Borbon.

Id trade Byrd for those 2 guys, maybe kick them something else, but not Marshall. Davis intrigued me when they wanted Chirinos or Castillo for him, but thats all Id move for him. As for Borbon, Brett Jackson could probably become a similar, maybe better player, and if not, Szczur can.

Uh, best case for Borbon is Michael Bourn. Michael Bourn is barely Juan Pierre in his prime. The day the Cubs put out a lineup with Fukudome, Borbon, Castro, Barney, Koyie Hill, and LeMahieu in it....I quit.

I'd love it if Borbon became Michael Bourn. Bourn's one of the few guys in the league who should be a legitimate All-Star almost every year with very little power. But I don't think Borbon could even come close to Bourn so I would not be in favor of acquiring him.

i would too, but borbon isn't as good as bourn defensively and is allergic to walks, so he sucks.

that's true. i just try to defend Bourn on here... he gets a lot of hate for some reason

I really want Davis, but I would hope something else could be substituted for Julio.

unless you see him as organizational depth or a possible third base replacement for aram I dont see how he fits.

as most have suggested borbon is not good. Not a fan of this rumor at all. marshall should at least be able to get us a couple of decent minor leaguers rather than a couple of exposed AAAA players.

Davis is exactly the type of guy we need to have on board heading into the offseason. He may be a high-K bust, but his potential combined with the ability to keep him on the bench, or potentially play him at 1B, 3B, or in the OF regularly is something we just don't have ready in the system right now, but could really use with the uncertainty surrounding those positions.

Doesn't mean we have to give up actual talent for him.

He's more of the type of guy they could use than the type of guy they need. They actually need a hell of a lot more than him.

Well yeah, Marshall/Byrd for Davis/Borbon is definitely a Texas message board creation. I was thinking more along the lines of convincing them that Jeff Baker is a left fielder.

I remain very intrigued by Davis.

I remain more intrigued by Prince Fielder and Albert Pujols.

I thought it went without saying that I'm not intrigued by Davis as a replacement for a stud first baseman.
