I have to think its a PR move. Trying to generate some semblance of ticket sales, because with them going nowhere this year, there's no reason at all not to keep him down until they get the extra year of control.

However, last Tuesday, he was allowed to throw 232 pitches in a 13 inning complete game. On 3 days rest, he threw a 159 pitch complete game. And now, on ONE day rest, he threw a 139 pitch complete game, with his final pitch at 94MPH. I think Dusty even threw up a bit.....

And guys like Nomo, Matsuzaka and Darvish probably had similarly taxing work loads when they were pitching in HS tourneys (maybe not as bad but multiple high pitch CGs on short rest is common in these tourneys).

When you factor in that Bundy's velocity was noticeably down this spring, it is something to be really concerned with. I haven't followed all that closely, but listening to Scott Garceau of 105.7 today, Bundy was in the low-mid 90's range this spring, compared to the mid-upper 90's heat he showed last year.

But seriously, this is absolutely absurd. You have to wonder how many Japanese HS pitchers have been ruined over the years that could have turned into solid-great major league pitchers if they weren't abused like this before the age of 20.
