I know this was posted in the game thread, but I thought it deserved it's own thread.

http://muskat.mlblogs.com/2011/06/05/65-big-z-we-stink/

“The problem wasn’t Pujols,” Zambrano said. ” The problem was the previous at-bat. We should know better than this. We played like a Triple-A team. This is embarrassing, embarrassing for the team, for the owners, for the fans. Embarrassing. That’s the word for this team. We should know better than this, we should know better than we did on the field. We should know that Ryan Theriot is not a good fastball hitter. We should know that as a team. We should play better here. We stink. That’s all I’ve got to say.”

In case you weren’t watching, Theriot hit a game-tying RBI double in the ninth off Marmol, hitting a slider. Marmol apparently shook off catcher Koyie Hill, who wanted him to throw a fastball.

Thank you Z. At least someone demands accountability.

Big Z is correct...slider speeds up Theriot's bat and allows him to hit it down the line when the Colvin was playing him up the middle. A single doesn't hurt, a double kills you. A three and six home stand followed by getting swept by your arch rivals just sucks. Two of the six games, the Cubs had leads that Marmol blew, both coincidentally great pitching performances from Zambrano. I can't blame Zambrano for being frustrated...

I will be curious to see what Quade says when asked about this. This team is does not field a good lineup, true, but game after game this team makes the kind of decisions which lose games. I have to believe Z was calling out everybody, from the top down to Marmol.

I'm sure ESPN will paint this as Z being Z, complete with a montage of his blowups. The problem is he's exactly right, in his message and how he delivered it. Somebody should be pissed.

It is hard to argue with what Big Z is saying. The good news is that Z would probably waive his NTC to go play for a major league team at the deadline.

Like I said in the game thread I've got no problem with anything Z said. He used the word "we" in his rant never singled anyone out individually. Z hates losing, we all know this. This season has to be aggravating as hell for him. He just said something we all have been saying. These guys are losing and playing terrible baseball while doing it. The fundamentals on this team this year have been horrible.

Z is absolutely correct. I am so tired of seeing this team day in and day out like this. I understand we have multiple guys on DL, but come on! We are one of th ebest offensive teams in the MLB, but the worst pitching team. Big Z has been throwing good of late, but whats happens...the bullpen blows it again. Marshall has been our best out of the bullpen, even with the blown game the other night. Wood is pretty much automatic to give soemthing up when comes in the game. The only thing I enjoy anymore is watching Castro, Barney, and Campana.

Sullivan says this may lead to the end of Zambrano's tenure here. He's probably right, since Z is the only one making any damn sense.

I hope they don't overreact like that.

Ya, lets get rid of the one guy on our pitching staff who is worth a crap right now. I understand from his previous tirades, but this time the guy has a legit gripe. Knowing our front office, we will get some single A guys and PTBNL.

Time to trade Zambrano for a relief pitcher and a meddling prospect, solidify your term as the Cubs GM, Hendry!

I can't blame him, I'd hate to be playing for the Cubs right now as well

How long have you been a Cub fan?

I think Z might be gone regardless of what he does or doesn't say. If this is what makes it happen, then Hendry can kiss my ass. Z is the only one making any sense, because it's certainly not Quade or Hendry.

And what type of message does this send the team? Show some fire and demand some accountability and we'll ship you out of here?

For those who regularly read the Chicago media, is Sullivan the type that would speculate like that without facts?

Yes Sullivan loves to speculate and never cares about facts regarding Z. Sullivan is the worst writer in town by far and will do anything for a "good story".

Not to pick on you because there's plenty of people doing it in this thread, but I think the fans are a heck of a lot more likely to overreact than management.

And he would have gotten away with it if it weren't for those meddling prospects and their dog.

I hope you're right, cause I like Zambrano, but I wouldn't be shocked if A. Hendry trades him for team "chemistry" reasons or B. Zambrano just wants out. That said, if he is traded we won't get [expletive] back

This did not go unnoticed. Well done sir.

I know it's considered showing up your teammates, but whatever. I like what Z said, and I don't think Marmol should get all that offended.

Trade him to the Red Sox for Bard, Doubront, etc. The Cubs are done, the Sox need another starter badly with Daisuke going down for the year and Lackey being no better than a 5th starter.

Z is right. But I'd say the Cubs are worse than stinky, they suck.

Sullivan has no inside information, this is just wishful thinking by him. He has been trying to run Zambrano out of town for years. There is no way Hendry could justify trading Zambrano and losing his best starter as bad as the replacements have been so far.
