If we're getting rid of Z, let's convince Anthropoulos/Shapiro he needs a veteran anchor on his staff and see how much money we have to pick up to get Lawrie/Chisenhall.

Sullivan has no inside information, this is just wishful thinking by him. He has been trying to run Zambrano out of town for years.

I'm pretty sure Paul Sullivan would be standing up and applauding if Ryan Dempster said this instead of Z.

WHAT'S DIFFERENT BETWEEN THOSE 2???????????

our media guys are really turning into a bunch of sensationalist drama queens. Or maybe they always were. Either way it seems much more annoying how they dramatize every little [expletive] thing. Z tells it how it is, and they are all over him. If he didnt say anything all they would have been writing articles saying pretty much the same things pointing out how the team had no leadership.

I really doubt Lawrie would be made available. Chisenhall is a bit more likely, but not terribly so... we could probably pry away Kipnis though.

Gene Wojciechowski as well on ESPN.

I got through the first two paragraphs - which are cut and pasted below - before stopping.

What do Carlos Zambrano and his bat have in common? They both snapped.

You could see this latest meltdown -- one in a lonnnnnnng line of nut-job moments by the Chicago Cubs starter -- coming for days. And after what he said about his teammates Sunday, Cubs management ought to suspend him for days, weeks, months or, in a perfect world, the remainder of the season.

Just want to correct the actual verbage. Big Z said:
We STINKS
. Go back and listen to the interview, rather than read it. Adding the 's' on the end makes the quote even impactful.

Zambrano and Soto for Montero, Banuelos, and a couple lower tier, high ceiling prospects. Yankees take all the money. Montero plays first, Castillo/Clevenger catch, and we hope Banuelos turns into a #2 starter. Plus a ton of money of the books so we can be players in FA market next year.

Yes, this would be great. Except I don't even think they'd do Zambrano/Soto for Montero straight up if it meant they had to pay all the money.

They wouldn't trade Montero and Banuelos for for Z/Soto straight up with even money. Neither would I.

Soto has a ton of value, especially considering the Giants, Rays, Yankees, and Red Sox all need catching. Plus he is relatively cheap, and under control for a couple more years. I think we could get a ton for him as the race heats up, and why not package Zambrano with him to the Yankees just to get the money off the books? If we can create a bidding war for Soto, I think Montero and Banuelos are possible.

I dont know who Baneulos is, but I think its very reasonable to send those 2 plus some cash for Montero, 1 of the back end of their top 10, and 2 more low level high ceiling guy. If they like, we can throw in Grabow if they have any use for a LOOGY who cant get lefties out.

This being said, if they are assholes and trade Zambrano for calling out this joke of a team, they damn well better have a plan to fix the rotation for next year. Garza, Dempster, Wells, Cashner, Coleman/relievers/retreads isnt going to do too much winning even with Pujols.

i can't see the indians taking on that kind of salary. we'd have to eat a significant chunk of it.

Haugh is the worst writer in town. Unless you want to count Dan McNeil's once a week whatever it is that he does. Although this column isn't too bad from haugh

You can't do what Z did. You just can't. I for one and hoping this is the public waving of his no trade clause and we got some cap relief and prospects.

Maybe I'm pessimistic, but he won't be on this team when we are good again.

Why? Guys do stuff like this all the time. He's frustrated after another loss. I really don't think it's a big deal. He'll probably apologize to Marmol (if that's even necessary) and everyone will move on, unless Hendry does something stupid, which sounds about right.

I also agree with the sentiment that if this was, say, Dempster making these comments many of these same people (journalists, fans, Hendry) would probably pat him on the back for being a leader and "holding people accountable".

You know they're dramatizing when they call *that* Zambrano snapping. He couldn't have sounded more calm.

I always thoguht Haugh was pretty decent before he took over "In The Wake of the News". But he's been terrible since then, no doubt.

His NFL Concussion/Robot Apocalypse column was quite a thing

Why? Does the team really need to have one of its own venting to the media? Do they not realize they just got swept by the Astros and Cardinals? How is Z referring to Marmol as a AAA pitcher going to make them any better at baseball? It's not. It's more noise and more distractions for a team spiraling out of control.

I'm sure a lot of guys are upset with the season, but they somehow muster the strength not to be fools in the media.

If we can get good prospects back for Z, I'd move him without a second thought.

It's not "noise and distraction." It's one thing when he's melted down in the past, but this isn't one of those times, and it's a lazy comparison to act like it is. All he did this time is lay the reality of the situation on the table.

Right, but it's not news to anyone in that clubhouse. Aramis Ramirez isn't going to react to Z calling them a AAA team in the media and start hittting home runs. It does no good and only possible tension and harm can come from the comments. These guys are professionals and are well aware of how bad they've been playing.

It seems like many of the same writers who so often applaud "clubhouse leadership" and "intangibles" are the same ones who are all over Z--who is, correct me if I'm wrong, the longest tenured Cub--for calling out the team for playing horribly. Yeah, his manner of delivery may have been impolitic, but his point is a strong one.

But he wasn't singling anyone out (besides Theriot). He said "we" the entire team. It was an indictment of the team as a whole, as it should be since this season is a breakdown of both the players and the coaches, and yesterday was a perfect microcosm of that. I agree, guys shouldn't single out other players on their team in the media to pick a fight...and Z didn't do that.

Zambrano's had plenty of examples of his temper getting the better of him and lashing out unnecessarily; this isn't one of them. This is a guy being paraded in front of the media after a tough and, quite frankly, stupid loss, and he said it like it is without singling anyone out.

This hits the nail on the head. There really hasnt been much going on this season on either side of town, just one awful team and one really bad team. All of the sudden this presents itself, and they can spin it into another Z "meltdown". Theres no reason to suspend him indefinitely.

Theres no reason to trade him unless we get top value for him. And I hope all of these clowns who keep suggesting the trade arent forgetting that NTC of his. This being said, even if we could get Lawrie or Chisnell, I cant see him waiving it to go to Toronto or Cleveland, contenders or not. The Yankees, thats a different story.

Posted
Right. I'm not opposed to trading Z given how much money that he's owed and what he could potentially bring in either at the deadline this season or in the offseason if he continues pitching as well as he has, but to trade him to run out of town is just stupid.
