i would love to hear an explanation for why you'd leave your starter in to throw 113 pitches in a game you're leading 16-0. i mean, it's not an outrageous pitch count, but he's spent a lot of time getting cold on the bench (especially during the 7-run 6th inning) and you have expanded rosters. there's just no need for it.

Yeah, that's a Dusty Baker move right there.

Listening to Hawk call such a backbreaking loss would have been utterly delicious.

Fear not, I actually have Hawk's call

.

It also would have been interesting to hear him pretty much all throughout last nights 18-2 massacre. If the Sox had any hope of heading into the playoffs going into the weekend, it's pretty much done for now.

I really wish today's Sox-Tigers game hadn't been a FOX game. Listening to Hawk call such a backbreaking loss would have been utterly delicious.

What call? He would have been silent almost the entire broadcast!

He's talking about the Saturday game when they choked away an 8-1 lead and were still up 8-2 with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th, not Sundays massacre. He would have been silent from the 5th inning on Sunday. Saturday, he'd of been yapping away until the bottom of the 9th.

Strasburg looking good through 3 innings.

Glad he recovered, but I just don't see why you bring him back to pitch in a month of meaningless games.

To finish his rehab? You do realize he's been pitching in the minors for over a month right?

clayton kershaw got thrown out of tonight's game for hitting geraldo parra, even though nobody else had been hit in the game. the back story is that in last night's game, parra almost got hit in the head by hong-chih kuo, then homered off him later in the AB and stood at home plate watching the home run until it landed (like not jogging slowly, he just stood there). kuo has gone from one of the best setup men in the game to a complete train wreck, struggling badly with his control all year. so the pitch at parra's face was not intentional. bill welke ruled that kershaw's pitch was intentional and threw him right out.

for 14 games. and they can't bring whoever they trade for to the playoffs. right.

Yup. When you were once a shoe in for the playoffs, if not the division, and all of the sudden you have a very good, young team breathing down your neck, why not see what's out there. They aren't going to overpay for anyone, but if there's somebody out there that can help their cause, it can't hurt to get them, especially with expanded rosters. I can't imagine that guys like Jim Thome, Derrek Lee, or Pat Burrell would be all that hard to aquire.

Teams were hesitant this year to give up anything of value for 3 months of a player. They're not going to give up anything at all for 2 weeks of a player. Because that would be stupid.
