White Sox-Orioles game on.

Gregg pitching, Konerko hitting.

Stone mentions "Paule really tore up Gregg while he was a closer with the Cubs, 7-11 lifetime."

I think to myself "Wait, Gregg was the closer of the Cubs for like 2 months, he couldn't have faced him much."

Gregg vs. White Sox as Cubs closer: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 K's, 1 W, 1 SV. Konerko vs. Gregg with Cubs: 0-1, K.

Bang up research, Steve.

Sox are now 8 below .500. I still think they win that division.

I dont know, theyre starting to remind me of the 2008 Tigers, remember, they had Cabrera, Ordonez, Sheffield, Granderson, Guillen, Pudge, Polanco, and Jacque Jones up and down the lineup, and everyone thought they couldnt possibly be as bad as they were, and it turned out that they were.

You're thinking of '07, not '08.

that's because a few of those guys (magglio, renteria and polanco especially) were coming off anomalously good years and people thought they could keep hitting like that, plus they assumed that a lot of those guys in their 30s would rake like they did in their prime.

they were actually #4 in runs scored and #3 in OPS among AL teams, even with most of their players coming back to earth and some having downright poor years. their problem wasn't offense, it was pitching... they had one of the worst staffs in the AL, which is why they lost a lot.

Liriano just no-hit the White Sox. He walked six and only struck out two. It's apparently the first complete game and shutout of his professional career at any level (according to the announcers).

I was follwing through gameday, and judging by all of the borderline calls on the at bats to Pierre and Dunn that weant in their favor, the ump wanted no part of it.

My cousin caught the last out! He nearly blew it on the first out of the inning though when he threw it in the dirt but was scooped out by Morneau. My stomach almost came out of my mouth when that happened.

This wasn't quite as ugly as Jackson's no-no last year, but still pretty ugly. 6 walks I think.

Liriano's line coming in: 9.13 ERA, 1.90 WHIP, 18 BB, 18 K in 23 2/3 IP and was allowing a hitting line of .281/.397/.500/.897.

It's got to make your lineup feel good when it gets no-hit by a guy who's given over an earned run per inning on the year coming in.

Demp should be next then.

According to Elias:

Liriano's 9.13 ERA was the second highest since 1913 for a pitcher entering the game in which he threw a no-hitter. Bill Dietrich threw one in 1937 and had a 10.13 ERA.

The two strikeouts are tied for third fewest in a no-hitter since 1969.

UCD alum.

Needless to say, I was pretty disappointed when the Cards drafted him a few years ago.

I couldn't believe Holtzman had 0 k's during his no-hitter in 1969

This Angels/Red Sox game in Boston is still going. 2:15 AM in Boston and they're in the 12th inning, courtesy of a long rain delay and the Sox scoring 3 runs in the 9th. Awesome.
