Guyer with his first MLB HR tonight :banghead:

And?

Remember when Sam Fuld was tearing the cover off the ball? You probably thought it was horrible we included him in the trade for Garza also. Well, he's OPSing .442 over the last 15 game and he's down to .714 for the season.

there's a gigantic difference between fuld and guyer. fuld was always going to be a AAAA guy or a 5th OF. guyer was ranked #10 among cub prospects by BA and put up big numbers in AA last year, and then continued to rake this year.

Guyer was also a 24 year old repeating AA when he put up big numbers last year. I always liked him, but he's a Cody Ross/Reed Johnson type if he pans out, which isn't all that different than Fuld depending on how you rate their defense.

Am I wrong in thinking it was extremely dumb for the Red Sox to bring Bucholz back out after a two hour rain delay? I would think they'd be much more cautious him.

Gallardo took a no-hitter into the eighth against St. Louis today but Daniel Descalso broke it up with a leadoff single.

Justin Verlander has retired all 21 Toronto hitters he's faced so far today and is at 82 pitches through seven. They're about to go to the bottom of the eighth.

Verlander just walked J.P. Arencibia after a 12 pitch at-bat which included eight foul balls.

But then he got a double play to get out of the eighth. Still no hits allowed.

Verlander struck out Rajai Davis for the second no-hitter of his career. Finished with four strikeouts and only one walk.

Anibal Sanchez hasn't allowed a hit today against Washington through six. The only baserunner reached on an error and a HBP. He's struck out 10 so far.

EDIT: And he lost it on the first batter of the seventh as Laynce Nix singled.

Don't know if this is a planned move, but Mike Leake now pitching in the 9th inning of a tie game for the Reds. Hopefully it is Dusty trying to ruin his career, but for all I know he is being permanently moved to the bullpen. Go Astros.

Yahoo says he got moved to the bullpen. He come on in relief on Monday also.

Verlander tried to channel his inner VanderMeer tonight... held the Royals hitless for 5 2/3rds.

I often wonder if VanderMeer's record is more unbreakable than DiMaggio's.

The substitute color guy just referenced Gil Meche retiring and Harrelson says "I don't know, maybe that happened." Way to know anything about the sport you supposedly cover you honk.

i love mazzaro's line from that game - 2.1 ip, 11 h, 14 er, 3 bb, 2 k, 1 hr. wonder when was the last time a reliever gave up 14 runs (or anyone gave up 14 runs for that matter).

He had a 2.5 WHIP coming into the game. And it increased. By 1.29.

19-1 now in the top of the six. Every Cleveland player has scored at least two runs except for Matt LaPorta, who is 3-3 with two doubles and four RBI. He's only scored once.

In 42 PA's, Cleveland has 18 hits and drawn 8 walks.

he was only 2 er from the record for anyone. some ehmke guy from the 20s gave up 16 er in 6 ip to the bronx bombers in 1923.

i believe this is the most for one pitcher since the second world war.

According to Rotoworld, both Berkman(wrist) and Holliday(quad) left last nights game with injuries. Of course the Cardinals being the Cardinals, both will miss 1-3 games, and they'll win 2 of them. If not, good for the Reds and maybe Brewers.

We got Reds/Phillies in the top of the 15th on ESPN. Nomar gets stuck in the booth for another barn-burner.
