Man I didnt even consider that the WCF was between two teams who historically underachieve in the playoffs. One of those chokers is going to choke less and accidently find themselves in the Stanley Cup Finals.

I think that I read somewhere that all the teams that had given up 3-0 leads, but came back to win game 7 have all gone on to win the Stanley Cup. I am not sure that Vancouver are actually playoff chokers, its not like they have been a top seed any time recently.

yea, i've never thought of vancouver as chokers. luongo maybe, but vancouver has just been the team that has been the hawks bitch and always melted down against us. underachievers maybe, but i wouldnt say chokers.

So I have this fear that Vancouver is going to win the cup in a couple of series that are like 4-2, then some meatball Hawks fans are going to say things like "we played them closer then anyone, we are like the 2nd best team"

I'll say the first part of the sentence. Certainly not the 2nd. It's harder to play someone closer than losing game 7 in OT on their home ice.

but the fact that we were dominated ni game 1, outplayed in game 2, outplayed in game 6, and mostly outplayed in game 7 pretty much gives me no reason to say the Hawks were the 2nd best team or even 7th best team.

Solid game from San Jose tonight. Jumped all over Vancouver early and converted on a couple power plays. It was 4-1 until Vancouver scored a couple goals after a dumb five-minute penalty by the Sharks.

Hopefully they can play like this again in Game 4 on Sunday.

Between looking like crap on five consecutive power plays and being unable to score despite being up a man for 10 of the first 25ish minutes in Game 4 and then giving up a tying goal with 15 seconds left in Game 5, the Sharks really did their best to help Vancouver win this series.

Oh well, hopefully Boston can take out TB and the Stanley Cup Finals go 7.

San Jose was clearly the better team 3 out of 5 games in that series. Hockey can be a funny sport.

I'm almost willing to root for Vancouver because Canada deserves a Cup.

But I can't quite bring myself to do it.

Rooting hard for the Briuns, for no particular reason I just don't like Tampon Bay, Bruins have been carrying the play thus far, out them 19 - 9.

That was an incredible 3rd period. Tip of the hat to Stamkos for showing some major stones tonight also.

That was impressive. His face looked terrible.

I'm going to have trouble watching the finals because I can't decide who to root for.

Also, very happy for Winnipeg:

They deserve to have a team, at least way more than Atlanta ever did.

Me too. I'm anti hockey in the sun belt/south (with a few exceptions, perhaps), so it's good to see Winnipeg get a team back. I still cannot fathom why the NHL thought Atlanta (despite a large population), of all places, was a good idea:

1. It's a warm-weather city, and such cities have an iffy at best record supporting hockey.

2. It's an awful sports town that barely supports professional football, basketball, and baseball.

3. Apologies for stereotyping here, but it has a majority African-American population (not exactly reknown for hockey fandom).

4. The NHL had tried, and failed, in Atlanta before (see, Flames). (I do profess ignorance as to why the Flames left, but I'm guessing "lack of support.")

Well, the writer does bring up a good point about Phoenix. Why the hell do they still have a team?

Sure, but "we may be bad, but we aren't the worst" argument isn't a great one.

They shouldn't. And, I'm sure, they soon won't -- the Coyotes will be in Quebec City or Hamilton or wherever. Hopefully that doesn't end the south-to-north exodus, either.

there's just not enough black hipsters in atlanta who would think that being into hockey would be righteously ironic.

Exactly. Skinny jeans and Atlanta Flames retro t-shirts would have been a winning combo, but, alas, it was not to be.

Sounds like they are going to stay in the Southeast Division for this upcoming year. That's going to suck for travel for all four of those teams. But it's only temporary.

I wonder if the Hawks would even play up there next year. Sounds like a reason to make a road trip (well, plane trip) north.
