I can't remember the last time Illinois had both a PG and a C that weren't timid. Maybe 2001 with Frankie and Archibald.

Deron and James?

Maybe James was more assertive than I give him credit for. Still have a bad taste from the Carolina game, but it was hardly his fault, since he played about 8 minutes.

Augustine was a beast. Love to have another guy like him again.

I'm not worried about Maniscalco against bigger guys, he's strong like bull.

I wanna buy in, but man he wasn't all that good at Bradley.

Lenny Myerson is legit.

what are you talking about? sam man was a pretty efficient player at bradley.

Never shot this well though. Three of four years under 42 percent.

check out his sophomore and junior year PPS and eFG. i'll take it any day.

yeah impressive, this will be a big step up tho in talent level once big ten starts. I hope he Keeps playing as well as he did then.

Just finished watching the game. It seemed like the Illini really dictated the game, and had a strong response to every Gonzaga push.

And I can't say enough how impressed I am by Leonard. Last year he was the proverbial bull in a china shop, but he's really brought his game under control. I'm amazed by what a soft touch he has developed to go with the power and athleticism. If he maintains this progress and stays another year, he's gonna be a monster.

As for Maniscalco, given how well he's played against Maryland and Gonzaga, I'm not too concerned about him really dropping off when conference play starts.

Maryland sucks and Gonzaga never plays good defense. I will feel better if he handles himself well against Mizzou.

He's a little bull. He's not going to be muscled around. He may be too short to consistently (successfully) attack the basket, but the physicality of league play won't be much of an issue, imo.

According to Pomeroy they were 32nd in the nation on D last year, 36th this year(not sure how his projections come into play for the rate stats)

Big win for the Illini. The team continues to impress, and they are a real fun group to watch. We need to cut down on our perimeter fouls, lots of stupid handchecks today. I really like the way Brandon Paul is playing, he's been more aggressive in driving the ball, and has developed a great crossover.

Illinois crept into both polls this week, 23rd in coaches and 24th in AP. Harvard made the AP poll for the first time ever.

Gonzaga still ahead of Illinois in the AP....that makes sense....

I don't have a problem with it. A single 7 point home win is hardly conclusive evidence of a team's superiority. Plus, Gonzaga destroyed ND this week as well.

Never seen anything like the Iowa-UNI game tonight. It was a 2 point game midway through the second half when the officials lost control, went crazy and called 4 technicals on Iowa in about 3-4 minutes. Included in that was a foul on Gatens when Iowa had the ball running in transition and his feet got tangled up with the UNI dude as they both went to the floor.

I'll admit it, the Jimmy V speech is still awesome.

it's so [expletive] inspirational...it will never grow old in my opinion.

Self-bump to point out to no one...

Iowa shot 43 twos, 12 threes and got 9 FT's.

UNI shot 23 twos, 21 threes and got 33 FT's.

Still angry.

I was only half paying attention but I've never seen a team shoot that many technical free throws in a row on something that wasn't a complete melt down.

I did see the technical on McCabe and I'm not really sure why they called that at all.

Great speech, but yet another instance where someone dying in the public eye covers up what a slimeball he was in real life.

Not to go all spongeworthy but NCAA violations doesn't make somebody a slimeball of a person. I'd say that speech and what it's inspired for caancer research more than makes up for the fact that he was forced out at NC State

Agreed, but he also fostered a culture of drug use and terrible grades and whatnot.

As of this morning, there are 14 remaining undefeated teams in Division 1:

- Ohio State

- Kentucky

- Syracuse

- Missouri

- Marquette

- Louisville

- Indiana

- Baylor

- Xavier

- Kansas State

- Harvard

- Illinois

- Creighton

- Murray State

Of those, only Ohio State, Kentucky, Harvard and Murray State have realistic shots at going undefeated for the year, though.
