Groce, unlike Smart and Stevens, has the stones to move.

LOL

I'm stretching a bit lol. Although I don't get what those two are waiting for?

maybe, just maybe, you're overestimating how glorious the illinois job is.

They're at VCU and Butler.

Oh come on, that's better than Illinois. Just ask abuck, he's so smart. Both at college basketball and movies.

Yeah, no one thinks the Illinois' job is any good. You're right.

Press conference at 1pm CT. I'll bring the kool-aid.

Over-under until someone makes a "Groce negligence" or "Groce incompetence" crack: 2 years.

I was pretty surprised by Smart, I thought he'd take the Illinois job. I don't think he'll end up getting a better job from VCU than Illinois. Stevens I wasn't surprised by; he's perfectly content and will only leave for a few specific jobs (and not even necessarily "better" jobs than Illinois, I think he'd likely leave for Notre Dame, if that became available). I know who should hire him in a few years, though they'll surely mistakenly hire a disciple.

I agree, hell go back and look. I said Stevens wasn't coming here. He needs to be careful though. One more sub .500 year and he doesn't look as good.

I get the sense from all I've heard/read that Stevens doesn't care much. If he stays his entire career at Butler, he'll be satisfied. If a situation comes up that is comfortable for him, then he'll strongly consider that as well. I don't think he's making his decisions based on what will get him to the top.

And it sounds more and more that schools like Butler and VCU will be stepping up soon. Lots of rumors that they'll be joining the A-10 along with George Mason. That will make that conference either the best mid-major or a low major (although the loss of Temple hurts).

no, no, no, no, you're right. it's the best job in america. that's why two people turned them down and they hired some guy who barely has a winning record in the MAC.

i mean, how this whole thing played out clearly proves you have accurately estimated how great the job is and how i am wrong. the facts speak for themselves.

And lol at the IU fans thinking we will suck next year.

Who are you talking about? A few yokels/trolls? I certainly don't recall anyone here saying so. It's pretty difficult to say with a new coach, but Illinois should be pretty good (and I'm assuming Meyers Leonard leaves).

(Though, in the yokels/trolls defense, Illinois went 6-12 last year in the Big Ten, figures to lose an NBA Lottery pick, and does not have much of a recruiting class. While it may be likely that the talented young players improve and Groce is an upgrade over Weber, neither of those things are a certainty.)

Sosa21MVP about two pages ago.

Ugh, I missed that. Well, he also doesn't think losing Watford will hurt, so . . .

I did not say it will not hurt at all. I just don't think it would hurt the team as much as you think it would given the overall talent level we'll still have on the roster. Given a choice, I'd rather have Watford back. Hollowell kind of blew up this last high school season, I'd give him a fair shot at replacing some of that production. Perea is more of a raw talent so yeah between the two, it would be my hope Jeremy can step up.

And yes, I was trolling Bruce Weber. I thought it was fairly obvious but apparently not. :P

Lol, yep. Man we should prolly just fold up. No one ever turns down good jobs in college sports. Again your grasp of college basketball is second to none. I hope you enjoyed your season of kind of following it, you know now that your one player is going pro.

Weber was actually right when he said that.

Yep, I'm literally breaking things. Or using a message board to vent. One or the other.

Sorry if this has been posted, but did you guys catch Vaughn McClure from the trib calling @thekapman out on twitter last night

vaughn mcclure ‏ @vxmcclure23

@thekapman no matter how hard you try, you're not going to get Frank Martin the Illinois job, now or in the future. Quit crying.

Classic, kapman owned.

Yeah, it was obvious you were trolling Weber; I just missed your comment the first time around. (Which made my initial post look rather foolish, oh well.)

The overall talent level on next year's team will certainly be higher (assuming Zeller stays, of course). And I love Hollowell -- as you mentioned, he pretty much blew up; and I don't think he'll be at IU for four years (and not in the Watford way). He and Perea certainly would be capable of potentially replacing Watford's production of twelve points and six rebounds per game. But basketball isn't baseball; merely "replacing" production doesn't necessarily equate to replacing the player. The roster -- in depth, experience, and versatility -- just looks much, much better with Watford.

And Rick Morrisey with the douchebag question of the day.

For those of us covertly following this thread while at a customer today, can someone give a running commentary?

sounds like jerrance is out.

That sucks. Oh well go get your head coaching career started Jerrance.

Did he take a HC job, or is he just not remaining at UI?
