At risk of interrupting the pissing contest, looks like Watford is gone for sure. I can't blame a kid for leaving, wherever he lands I hope he makes the most of it.

As for IU, he will be missed. The program has grown to the point that this won't kill them, but would have been nice to have him for another year. This does solve the scholarship situation, wonder if Crean knew this was likely all along. Add Watford's name to the list of "Creaned" players.

so you agree that if illinois was a top 10 job in the nation, they wouldn't have just hired jim croce. cool.

No, I don't agree with that at all. Think Corce was possibly one year away from being Shaka Smart. He would have returned everyone off of his 29 win team and would have probably made another tournament run. Furthermore he recruited every single guy on his deep run team. Something that neither Stevens or Smart can say about their teams. But hey, I'm just a psycho, not a super genius like yourself.

What's his situation that he has to leave, family need money? That sucks. Will hurt you at first, but by the middle of the year it won't be as big a deal, IMO.

I've read a few things that suggest the family may need the $. If that is true, he needs to do what he needs to do. There has been no formal decision made, but most seem to expect it.

This will open up time at his position for a few guys. Sheehey and Hollowell most likely. Hard not to miss a 6-9 guy who can handle the ball a bit and shoot. Adjustments will need to be made.

it doesn't take a genius to know the illinois job is not a top 10 in the nation job.

It was either Watford goes pro or have Austin Etherington fed to a pack of hyenas.

i'm not going to debate this with you on a program by program basis. if illinois was truly a top 10 job, people would have been falling all over themselves to get the job. that wasn't the case. the end.

Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, Kansas, Indiana, UCLA, Michigan State, Ohio State, UConn, Florida, Michigan, Texas, Georgetown, Louisville, Syracuse

I like your list a lot better. But, I'd argue that UCONN s Calhoun and will fall apart fast after he is gone as it doesn't have a huge recruiting base nearby. I also don't think that Georgetown is a better job either. But, at least you listed Indiana.

Yep because the world is always as cut and dry as that. Genius.

UConn will be fine. What is it, 2 hours from NYC and a half hour from ESPN?

I don't know. I could be wrong. But to me, that is just Jim Calhoun.

The ongoing disintegration of the Big East is going to hurt those schools quite a bit. I don't think the conference will lose big 6 status in hoops, but if they lose BCS status in football it will take a LOT of money away from the athletic programs of those schools.

I'm guessing because it has made the most money the past few years. But yeah, I agree wiht you it isn't a better job.

So, then Texas Tech was a better program when Bobby Knight was the coach?
