I don't understand what's going on here but it seems to me that illiniguy is grasping at straws

How? I think its a top 15 program. Even if all of the teams on abucks list were better than us. That still puts us at 15. I mean sure his list is awful, he didn't include Indiana in it, but even using it we are right at 15.

FINE, i'll add indiana to my list. happy?

No, I think by leaving Indiana off you really showed your college basketball knowledge.

and this discussion has shown yours.

Are schools being judged now on what they've done over the past five years?

Yes, they are.

Huge campus/student body, nice city, great arena/facilities, tons of cash. It might not measure up historically, but it's a good job right now.

Clearly. You win again. So smart. I bet you are doing huge things.

What jobs do you think Brad Stevens and Shaka Smart would accept if offered?

I'm no longer sure about Smart; I would have thought Illinois was on that list.

As for Stevens, he'd leave for IU, Duke, surely North Carolina, and I think Notre Dame. One would think Kansas. I'm less sure about Kentucky (poor, um, fit . . .) and UCLA (distance). Other than that, I'm not really sure -- though I doubt this is an exclusive list. He's honestly happy at Butler.

Crean has exceeded your expectations? He's 34 games under .500 in the B1G in four years. lol.

If he wins the B1G and gets to a Final Four next year, I could see that as exceeding expectations.

I mean, things are pointed in the right direction. But has he really exceeded your expectations?

um...yes? obviously.

Does this mean Notre Dame is not an elite football school anymore?

didn't say it was the only factor.

but i'm certainly far from a ND supporter.

Considering where the team/program was when he took over, he's probably a year ahead of schedule. In that sense, he's exceeded expectations.

“Illinois, we haven’t had that great feeling here in a long time since that run they had withDee Brown and (Deron) D-Williams and them,” Rose said. “I know everybody is dying and waiting for that one team to bring us back.”

GFY Derrick

He didn't want to split time with Chester Frazier. And he did us a favor by going elsewhere, he knew he wasn't going to be elligible. So says the Bulls fan in me that likes Derrick.

Absolutely. I didn't think he'd get Cody Zeller. I certainly didn't think he'd get Yogi Ferrell. IU's long-term recruiting is on more stable ground than it has been since the early 1990s. I thought Crean would comfortably settle IU into 20ish wins and 10ish loss seasons with better seasons randomly sprinkled in; it seems very likely I was overly pessimistic. That said, I cannot stop you from myopically viewing Crean's tenure through the prism of his first three years as if those years have predictive quality.

He's exceeded mine. Crean is returning IU to a place it hasn't been in 20 years. This year was only the 2nd time in the last 15 years or so that IU had a 4 seed or better in the NCAA tournament. Next year should be even better. 2013 and 2014 look very bright as well with the recruits that have already been lined up. He took a program that had been in decline for some time that was currently in shambles and made it relevant again. Was I hoping that year 3 might have been a little better? Sure, but I didn't expect that one of his best players would actually be a liability because of injuries either that year. And year 4 was wildly above my expectations. I wasn't sure Crean was the coach that could get Indiana top 10 recruiting classes and competing for national championships again other than the Mike Davis 2002 way. And now the first part has been done, and the 2nd part looks very hopeful.

Next year will definitely be better now that they got rid of Watford.

They're one Zeller away from a bottom third finish. Hopefully he wises up and cashes in.

Ok so your expectations of him were low, if you didn't think he could recruit 5 star players to IU and have consistent success. That's all I'm saying is that I was surprised he had exceeded your expectations.

Then he's as dumb as he looks. I guess if he blows out a knee his big bro can throw him some cash.

I doubt that. I'd be absolutely thrilled to get three years from him.

Or he could just take out a multi-million dollar insurance policy that would pay him, you know, multi-millions of dollars if he got hurt. (Which I would hope he does immediately, assuming he's coming back.)

I don't think he will leave early barring an IU title. The Zellers stay in school. Plus I don't think his game will translate all that well to the NBA.
