Also the committee said that the 5th and 6 teams out were Mississippi State and Seton Hall.

That means a team like Miami was nowhere near getting selected

Miami was 2nd team out. You told us so. :-)

Yup, and once again I am an idiot.

You hanging out with Rasheed Wallace tonight? :P

I'm sure this is a coincidence, but disappointing if it isn't. If you look at the last team in (Iona) and the first 6 out, they are almost exactly ranked by RPI.

Iona 41

Oral Roberts 51

Miami 60

Nevada 66

Drexel 66

Mississippi St 74

Seton Hall 68

So Mississippi St and Seton Hall weren't in order, but when the committee guy was talking about them, I didn't get a sense that he definitively said Miss St was 5th out and Seton Hall was 6th.

Either way, if they were just picking the best RPIs, it would explain some weird things like Oral Roberts being the 1st team out with a 203 SOS and Nevada being 3rd to last team out.

I think I like Belmont over Georgetown.

I took Davidson over Louisville and Harvard over Vandy. I also made the probably completely insane pick of taking Creighton past UNC and into the S16.

Creighton's not a great defensive team. I think UNC would get whatever they'd want against them.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to put FSU in the FF.

Harvard I actually took to the S16. I also picked FSU to the Final 4. I ended up with a KU over UK final.

i'd revise that ish now while you still can.

I've said it before, but to me the tournament is really top heavy this year, and I'm actually having a tough time not putting the top 2 seeds in each region to the elite 8.

My first pass was the same way. I waffled on a couple 2 v. 3 games, and had a couple 12/13s getting to the second weekend, but every 1,2, and 3 made it as far as their seed would predict.

Damn. Illinois State had me excited for a second. Nine Big Ten teams in the postseason, and none of them are Illinois.

I'm not going to sit here and talk about the NIT because no one cares but I've never been so happy for Iowa to get a bid to that tournament.

Wait Illinois didnt make the NIT? WOW

Also, NITology sucks I guess, they didnt even have Iowa in the discussion for the NIT. There were about 12 teams listed as OUT but in the discussion and Iowa was nowhere to be seen.

Illinois probably will not pay the money it costs to host a game in the CBI. Since they don't have a coach, who can blame them.

The Illini will not enter any other postseason tournament, athletic director Mike Thomas had said.

He had them as his 3rd team out yesterday. Then in this morning's update he had them completely removed. He now added them back in on the bubble either after the fact or in his very last update.

Mizzou got screwed. That is all.

EDIT: Actually, that's not all. They were 4-1 against teams that finished in the top 10 and the one loss was an OT loss by one on the road to the regular season conference champion. Yes, their non-conf SOS was weak, but they also killed nearly everyone they played non-conf and in conference. Is it better to be 27-7 and have played 3 more "tough" non-conf games, or to be 30-4? To put Michigan State ahead of Missouri you have to assume that Missouri would lose 3 more games than they did if they played Michigan State schedule. That's a large assumption. I wouldn't be so pissed if the committee had Mizzou as the 5th overall seed, but 8th overall is absolutely ludicrous. Again, the committee had to assume that Mizzou would lose nearly every "tough" game that they supposedly didn't schedule. Which would be fine if they were, say, 1-4 against kU and Baylor, but, no that's not what the record shows.

At least they have a tourney in basketball.

First power conference team to win 30 and not get a 1 seed. You want to put them as the #5 overall? Fine. I'm not happy with it, but whatever. But to put them as the #8 overall and not put them in the St. Louis bracket? That's insane.

Missouri was easily a top 8 team. Unfortunately, so were the other 7. Mizzou has a decent argument for a better resume than Duke. Outside that, though? Not so much.

If Mizzou had been placed in the St. Louis bracket as a 2 seed, it would have been, no joke, one of the biggest screw jobs in the history of the tournament towards whoever was the 1 in that region. Come on.

You think it's going to be much different for them that kU is there? They're going to pack the place.

Missouri definitely did not get screwed. And even though they were eighth on the S-Curve, they ended up with the lowest ranked No. 1 seed in Michigan State anyway.

So, schedule the teams that you'll beat by 15-20 instead of the teams you'll beat by 30. OK.

Just stop. You clearly have no idea how the efficiency ratings work.

Again, this argument all hinges on assuming Mizzou would lose at least 3 more games if they played similar schedules to Ohio St/Michigan St. Which is a large assumption when you look at how Mizzou has fared against Top 10 schools (4-1).
