Honestly, I don't know how serious his knee is, but this is the NFC Championship game, and Cutler was standing around with that knee. Looked fine to me.

so one time i was playing volleyball with my friend and he went up for a spike, came down awkwardly and there was an audible pop as his ACL exploded. but here's the crazy thing! i saw him like an hour later and he looked fine to me. he wasn't on crutches or bleeding out of his eye sockets.

My senior year of HS ball a teammate tore his ACL and he just burst into flames on the field. Cutler couldn't even do that.

I was just saying you [expletive] spazzes. At the very least it was stupid pr to have jay on the sidelines.

why? he's a part of the team and probably cared about the outcome of the game. what are they going to do, have him sit in the locker room with his thumb up his butt watching the game by himself?

They totally should have carted him off the field.

The Bears media relations team surely has a lot to do with what happens on the sidelines during the game.

the fact that were talking about this and the fact that this conversation will last alllllll offseason sorta proves the point tho. it's just short sighted

well I don't necessarilly agree with it. But I'll just tell you that tomlinson did the same exact thing with a much better track record with Sd and a bunch f idiots never ever forgave him. perception is reality and all that dumb [expletive]. Jay will have to fight a bunch of stupid pr angles next season book it

Get a [expletive] clue. If they had just checked him out on the sidelines and then sent him to the locker room not to return right now you would be saying that he quit on them and couldn't even sit on the sidelines to cheer them on or talk to Hanie about reads and situations even though it was just a hurt knee.

Note to Bears management: be sure to cart players off the field. A little fake blood wouldn't hurt either.

This is the thing about Cutler: he played pretty badly in the 1st half. Missed several open receivers (albeit some needed great throws to hit them), he threw at a couple of Packers and underthrew a INT at a point where we were close to points and needed something before halftime.

All this is true for me. But the thing is..the game wasn't over. There was still tome to turn around his game. I mean look at Rodgers. Imagine if he only had those 3 bad quarters and not the good one and left with an injury.

I'm not questioning the injury at all. It's stupid to pretend like he should have been out there and not know what sort of pain he was going through. Maybe he did "quit". I doubt it but it's impossible to prove anything and more often than not by like a 15-1 margin a player in that situation is hurt and can't play. So calling him out without knowing anything is really ignorant and makes u look dumb.

I do greatly worry about how the city is reacting to this though. Initial reaction is very anti cutler. They could run him out of town but that would be so Chicago to give away the only good qb in 40 years. At least let us see how he does with an oline and wrs. Besides he had a good season. Really wanted to see him perform in a big game situation but whatever it's not like Rodgers was great.

That said, didn't rivers have a similar injury a couple years ago in the playoffs and play another whole game on it? Not saying that means anything but just wondering if my memory is correct.

here's what you tell people - HE BLEW OUT HIS KNEE. that's what happens when you blow out your ACL, you stop playing football until it's fixed. if that's not good enough for people then [expletive] 'em.

Sean Jensen (Bears columnist for Sun-Times just tweeted:

@skjensen: Olin indicates that Cutler had a torn ligament in his knee. Said he couldn't believe he even returned for second half.

Olin could make some extra cash in the offseason renting himself out as an MRI machine.

We don't officially know what kind of injury Cutler had. It isn't even about whether or not Cutler could go out there and play. He probably could have gone through brutal pain and played, but he would have been no good. Hanie gave the Bears a better chance of winning than a QB who couldn't move and couldn't stride forward to plant and throw.

You are all being facetious but yeah it would look a lt better if jay were in the locker room. Face it, it's going be a big dumb angle that he and the team will have to answer for alllllll offseason long. It's nt fair at all but that's life, stupid as it is

Man, some of you guys will find anything to bicker about. Considering the circumstances, the Bears did an awesome job today. They lost. It isn't the end of the world. It isn't like they were the greatest team ever and got upset.

It's weird, I consider myself more a Bears fan than Cubs fan... but this and the Colts Super Bowl loss is more of "meh.. oh well". While '03 was atomic, and the 6 games in '07 and '08 were giant gut punches.

This is seriously stupid. I am going to go ahead and say medical reports will come back in favor of Cutler not playing. It isn't going to be a big deal after that.

Tell me the Bears go down 14-0 early, lose Cutler in the second half, and are driving late in the game to try to tie it up and I would have been happy. It just absolutely stinks that in the biggest game in Chicago in Chicago sports history that our QB went down. I just wish Jay could have played the entire game healthy.

That was tongue in cheek, right?

Biggest single game IN CHICAGO in Chicago sports history. For reals.

No. Just no.

Smith said Cutler was disappointed he could not continue.

"He was hurt, and he couldn't go," Smith said. "Trainers, doctors and all, they are the ones who really made that decision. As far as Jay, he is like everyone else; he was disappointed he couldn't go out and play to help his team win."

If Cutler really wanted to go back in, they should have let him. So if we're not blaming Cutler, we should be blaming Lovie for thinking he had a remote chance in hell of winning with Todd Collins or Caleb Hanie.
