As I've said before, I definitely prefer Atlanta in Atlanta for the NFC CG, but to be honest I don't see it happening. This whole playoff setup just reeks of a Bears-Packers NFC CG. That game thread would have a strong potential to be the best of all-time here at NSBB.

Are Seahawks fans really all idiots?

I have read a ton of different Seahawks boards and blogs, and none of them seem to have any respect for the Bears. I have never seen one team's fan base so pumped up for one win. A lot of them think because they beat us in October that means they will roll over us in this one. Ever heard of "Any Given Sunday"?

A lot of their analysis seems to be "I can't wait for Cutler to throw us like 5 INTs, that's all he's known for. The more he passes the more likely he will give us several boneheaded decisions.", "The Bears offense finished 30th in the league, and their D wasn't that good late in the season", "I expect all of our front 7 to have huge days against the offensive line" etc.

But the biggest discussion seems to be whether they want to play Atlanta or Green Bay in the NFC Championship game. No really...

yeah you might be onto something there.. if we cam beat atlanta on the road, i like our chances in the superbowl alot better

I can't believe how delusional they are. I mean they have a right to think they can win the game...they can. But a lot of them are giving the Bears no chance. You are a 7-9 garbage team that managed to win the game of their lives. It's not like they started badly and got better as the year went on. They actually got worse and fluked their way into the playoffs.

Anyways, every fan base has idiot fans no doubt, but I haven't seen one level headed Seahawks fan that acknowledges that the Bears could actually win this game amazingly enough. After scouring the internet tonight, I now really really want to see a 30 point win to shut their fanbase up.

let em have their day (week) in the sun, they aint winning on Sunday. I expect this defense to have a field day, and I expect the offense to be a lot better.

Please Jay don't throw them like 5 INTS :)

I hope we shut them up too. I wish I could just dismiss a team like this, but unfortunately it's the NFL. Yeah, they could actually win the game. It's the nature of the beast in this league.

We're clearly better. But we need to actually show it on Sunday, and that's really all that matters.

Ok, we all aren't idiots, just enjoying some Saturday Hangover. Come on, switch roles one second and if the Bears pulled off what Seattle did you would be giddy too.

Give it until at least Wednesday for some sense of realism hits. This was similar to last week after the Rams victory.

But I guess I will start off with the "some semblance of respect" for the Bears. They have an excellent defense but can be picked on with a smart QB. Hasselbeck is a very smart QB. At the beginning of the season, I compared him to McNabb and in a lot of ways he is a similar QB. Not style wise but reputation wise. Hasselbeck can carry a team, get hot and take charge. He knows what he is doing and how to change to make an impact. He is bad when he forces things or gets frustrated by the lack of talent around him.

One item of note is that this is as hard as I have seen the Seahawks play all year. On lynch's spectacular run, every player was running down to help. In the shot you see the league's worst guard (Polumbus) running with Hasselbeck. This was not seen all year until the final 2 games. It always seemed they had too much "fun" and not enough effort to finish games. Carroll brought the enthusiasm and finally the team brought the actual NFL plays.

I am looking forward to this game. Seahawks Bears games are always fun on this board. Go Seahawks!

Your semblence of respect is "Bears have a good defense but can be picked on by a smart QB"? Thanks for the kind words?

I have no problem with the enthusiasm. I'd be pumped too. But I mean, one guy said something like "the Bears say they are a different team since week 6, but we're light years better than we were in week 6. How so? You are something like 3-7 in your last 10 games. OK you beat the Saints, thats solid but that doesn't mean all the sudden you are necessarily a better team. I also saw people saying things like "Bears fans are likely scared after seeing us destroy the Saints." And "Chicago is pissing their pants because they have to play us. They saw us put up 41 on NO."

I know I'm getting way too worked up about it (and I'm not actually that worked up, just more or less stunned), but I was hoping to see some mature discussion on at least one of the boards/blogs but all I saw was a ton of blind irrational favortism.

Anyways, I was looking forward to seeing your remarks on the game. I've always known you as a good Seahawks fan so I wish you good luck this weekend.

I'll take ATL on the road as well, though it's close. I think what pushes me over the edge is that I can't stand the idea of GB coming to Chicago and winning the CG on our field.

And they beat the Saints because the NO defense [expletive] the bed. When you give up 36 points you're not usually winning that game.

I think Green Bay is better than Atlanta. I also think the Bears are better suited to play on a fast surface indoors than on sloppy Soldier Field turf. The Falcons' home crowd would worry me a bit, but I'd probably still rather play ATL.

Most of all, of course, let's just beat the Seahawks.

Yeah, I saw the "Chicago peed their pants" postings in Seahawk-dom and had to laugh a little.

I mean there's meatball, and then there's that.

But you just said Hasselbeck is a smart QB.

He's been pretty bad since the back/knee injury in 08. I have never feared facing Hasselbeck but I especially don't now.

In a sense, there is no pressure on them to win. They played relaxed and appeared to have a lot of fun in the process. That can make for a rather dangerous team to compete against.

However, looking back on the season, I thought the Bears worst game of the season was the game against Seattle. Now that we have that one out of the way, I hope they show Seattle who they REALLY are.

What's all this talk about a Seahawks letdown and Bears sleepwalking? This is the playoffs. Every team gets up for the games the exact same. No matter who wins the game, it won't be because one team was over or under confident. It wasn't the reason the Saints lost on Saturday.

I wonder if Lovie secretly wishes the Bears go the Eagles or Saints. I gotta imagine losing to the Seahawks would hurt his extension efforts. If they lost to the Seahawks, his bounce back season goes up in flames and all the sudden is the perception of the season is the Bears got fortunate with injuries (for other teams and lack of for the bears) and an easy schedule and they were exposed by losing at home to a 7-9 team in the playoffs.

Whereas even if they lost to the Saints or Eagles, you gotta think unless they got destroyed, it wouldn't do too much to hamper his hopes of an extension.

Random depressing note. Cutler's last playoff game was in the 2000 Indiana State Championship game. In the game he threw 3 INTs and 0 TDs (But did catch a TD pass on a trick play to win the game).

Even if the Bears lose this game, I'd be shocked if Lovie doesn't get his extension. It's the easy thing to do, regardless of whether it's the right thing to do, and that will win out.

You're expecting waay too much out of NFL fans. I haven't read a single thing from a Seahawks fan (well until mhuber ruined it with a typical backhanded compliment) and will try to keep it what way as much as possible. Hell, you can barely get it from the "experts".

you can see it on youtube along with his punt return td.

If Lovie Smith is looking for a historical precedent to use as a motivational tactic to make sure his team takes the Seattle Seahawks seriously, he might want to consider the case of the 1987 San Francisco 49ers.

Bill Walsh's club had secured a first-round bye that season and hosted an NFC divisional playoff contest against a Minnesota Vikings team that stumbled into the playoffs by losing three of its last four and finishing with an 8-7 record.

When the Vikings thrashed the Saints in the wild-card round 44-10, it should have served as ample notice to San Francisco to step up its performance for its upcoming battle, but it didn't. Anthony Carter torched the Niners' secondary for 227 yards on 10 receptions and it led to a 36-24 loss that Walsh later termed as the worst defeat of his career.

I don't see any way the Seahawks beat the Bears, but I also didn't see any way they could beat the Saints.

I'd much rather go into next season hearing how the Saints stumbled in the playoffs rather than how the Seahawks were some sort of Cinderella for making it to the NFC championship game. Don't piss me off, Bears.

While the Saints had a 12-4 record, their team was nowhere near the team that won it all the previous year.
