This Seattle team isn't as good as the 2006 team and I think this Bears team is a little better than the 2006 team. My prediction: Bears 24, Seahawks 17.

What's the point in comparing this to 2006?

You really think this team is better than the 2006 team?

The 06 Bears had a differential of +172. The 10 Bears had a differential of +48. The 06 Bears won in Minnesota for only the 2nd time in the last decade. They blew out the previous year's conference champs by 31 points. They had 4 other 25+ point blowouts and 9 of their 13 wins were by 10 points or more (and 2 of the wins that weren't came after clinching HFA). They shut out the Packers for the only time in Brett Favre's career.

I mean I think this years team is better at this point than it's differential but there is no way they are more complete than the 06 team. Better offensive line, better running backs (arguably), better overall defense and probably just as good special teams. The QB spot is the only position group where the 10 Bears are clearly better IMO. I don't know why some people seem to think the Bears were a flawed team that fluked its way into a Super Bowl. This was a really really good team.

The obvious point is that the Bears should easily win.

The Saints should have easily won too.

Yeah I think they are slightly better.

Going into the playoffs the 2006 team did not have a better overall defense. They were without Harris and Brown. This year's defense is healthy, has a better defensive line, and better safety play.

The 2006 was not flawed, but they did not have the kind of QB play that Cutler brings right now. And since that is the most important position in major sports, it is key. Cutler is what makes this team better.

Minus Brown and Harris, the 06 Bears were still a better team than the 10 Bears. Grossman was clearly not in the realm of Cutler, but still gave you a chance to have a great game. He wasn't Todd Collins and despite his issues with protecting the ball could still move the ball down the field and score points.

What confidence 1 win gives you.

I am reading these blog comments in the Hawks blog:

http://www.fieldgulls.com/2011/1/9/1925384/road-to-the-big-game-path-to-the-super-bowl#comments

Not one single comment shows any fear for Chicago. The biggest discussion has been about who is going to wave the 12th man flag in the NFC Championship game or something.

The Seahawks offense erupted like a volcano [in week 6], spewing hot ash and cinder on the Bears for 352 total yards. 352 yards of hot ash and cinder, you see.

Wow. I hope they realize that Jay was still in recovery mode from the concussion. He won't play like that again.

hassellbeck scares me, though.

A few weeks ago he was nearly universally considered washed up.

I don't think the Bears have an excuse for letting Hasselbeck beat them.

NO didn't, either.

The Bears should watch the tape of that NO/SEA game, and learn how not to sleepwalk into a game against an inferior opponent.

The fact is, the Bears are the better team. Even if they lose they're still better. But that doesn't always bear itself out in a single game. So they better look sharp and execute well, limit the mistakes, and don't look ahead.

The defense wasn't anything special once Harris went down. He was Peppers-like in '06. It was largely our offense that got us to the Super Bowl.

hasselbeck is all pro one week, all crap the next. he can be streaky.

we need to get pressure, we need to run forte, we need cutler to burn the blitz, and it wont matter how he plays

That's big talk from a fan base that was rooting to miss the playoffs in order to get better draft position.

the bears weren't that good in the second half of the 06 season

I disagree. They weren't as good as the first half of the season clearly but they were still a playoff caliber team. And they proved it by making the Super Bowl.

In the second half they beat next years Super Bowl champs by 18, lost to the AFC runners up by 4 points in a game they should have won if Grossman didn't unleash the sex pistol and throw 4 ints, went 6-2 overall and still won 2 of their last 3 despite locking up HFA.

The Bears are not going to look past Seattle, not after losing to them already this season. They are going to come out flying, and if the Bears get a big turnover or a quick score, I think it'll be a blowout.

This is all kinds of dumb. Not only that, but it's kind of odd that a FG kicker is the one saying it considering his job doesn't really get any easier or harder depending on what team he plays. Did he not have faith in his team to beat the Eagles?

pretty sure he wants the NFC Championship at SF

or just wants NFC North bragging rights

Those are fine reasons, but I'm pretty sure that's not how the Seahawks will see it.

I'm not so confident about Seattle. maybe its because I live here and I don't want to lose to these guys and deal with it for a week

they will be coming off a big emotional win, ripe for a let down. they will be confident, maybe overconfident. they are terrible on the road, but have already beat us once.

they will be playing with "nothing to lose", but they wont be at home. if things start to turn on them, they will snowball.

but they have already beat us, and they are the type of team we struggle with in their short passing game. if Urlacher breaks Hasslebecks leg in the first 15 min, i'll feel a lot better.

what are they going to do? rough the kicker for revenge?

the Bears have plenty to avenge in this one

No but they are going to use those comments as proof the Bears would rather face the Seahawks and don't respect them. Or something. I don't necessarily believe it matters, but teams seek out thing kinda stuff all the time and Gould delivered it to them on a platter.
