C'mon, seriously?

The game was played 1/19/2002.

Yeah I know, but that's not the point. The point is it's been a freaking long time since we played a Saturday game, whether it happened in the 90s or 2002. Correcting me on a difference of one year is totally beside the point.

This game is the best proof that our WR's are garbage. Knox is a great slot WR. That's about it.

Knox was awful yesterday.

And we were playing without Earl Bennett who is (sadly) arguably our best WR.

Is there any doubt that we must draft a WR in the first two rounds?

Yes. Did you miss the 6 sacks?

Is it safe to call Chris Williams a bust yet?

Not quite. I think he's done some good things in the run game. Whether point of attack or pulling. His pass blocking is turrible though.

Chris Williams is playing fairly well for learning the OG position 1/2 way into the season. Yesterday on Forte's runs, he was consistently blowing the GB DT 2-3 yards back, and on at least one play, about 6 yrds. I think the change might be really good for him.

his pass protection has a bit to go, but I think thats from learning the position and not fully understanding the protection schemes.

I don't know. Granted it was only 1 play, but he got completely ran over by that OLB for GB that I never heard of til yesterday. He also got ran by on an occassion or two. Purely physical mistakes, iMO.

I took those as mental mistakes, considering they were protection schemes on passing plays (if I recall the same ones you are)

Probably more mental, becuase I think they were OLBs and Woodson beating Williams, but he's not making the physical plays to make up for the mental errors. I do think you have to give him another year though at LG, if that's where he's going to be. I can't believe he's still has only started and finished 5 games at LT.

Forte had 65 of his rushing yards on the left side yesterday, and not one attempt was for a loss. Garza(Webb) was much worse on the right, getting holding calls and having a couple runs stuffed.

FO mentioned that Forte has been one of the worst backs in the league up the middle, but is top 5 on the outside.

Kruetz gets blown out of the hole a lot

Based on round and projected position, Williams is a bust. He just doesn't project as highly as where they drafted him.

They need to draft O-line early and often.

The difference between an early rd WR next year and what they have now in a Martz offense isn't as important as improving the line.

This doesn't relate to the playoff game or anything but with the talk of how bad our WR's are. Any interest in TO in the offseason? He was productive for Cincy and didn't cause any problems that I can remember. Yes, no, hell no?

Maybe they shouldn't. Just playing devil's advocate here -- if Angelo sucks at OLine eval, then having him pick a bunch of OLine guys might be playing to his weakness, which would equal more busts.

I think Angelo needs an offensive talent eval guy to feed him the right picks on the offensive side of the ball. Call him the GM version of Martz, to Angelo's Lovie.
