Ok so.. If the Packers don't win the division..

Giants

@ Minnesota - W

vs. Philly - L

@ Green Bay - L

@ Washington - W

Final record: 10-6

Buccaneers

vs. Detroit - W

vs. Carolina - W

@ New Orleans - L

Final record: 10-6

Packers

@ New England - L

vs. New York - W

vs. Chicago - W

Final record: 10-6*

* Win tie breaker.

This sucks, just don't lose to the Lions... :banghead:

This is the most likely 10-6 scenario for us to get in. If Minnesota wins tonight, we'd probably be the big winners of the evening.

Is this the first time in history a 5-8 team has realistically been in the playoff hunt?

The Chargers made the playoffs after being 4-8 a couple years ago but they probably weren't a realistic chance until they were 6-8.

7-9 looks more and more likely to win that division. With two head to head games left between the 3 it seems like it would be inevitable that one of those teams would get to 8 but I just don't see which team it would be.

Yes, most likely. Seattle is going to lose the next two (vs. Atlanta, at Tampa). San Francisco is going to lose at San Diego. The Rams will probably lose to Kansas City. Entering Week 17, I think the Rams will be 7-8, the Seahawks will be 6-9 and the Niners will be 5-10.

But week 16 is Niners @ Rams, which is probably a toss-up. If SF wins @STL in 2 weeks, then its likely all 3 teams will be 6-9 going into week 17, with STL @ SEA and ARI @ SF that week.

It might be better for the Packers to rest Rodgers and "punt" this week than to play him, likely lose anyway, and risk knocking him out for the last two weeks, which are much more important games.

That's what I'm thinking too. Sure would've been nice if Flynn didn't throw that pick in the end zone yesterday.

Larry Fitzgerald.

and you're still pining for Crabtree? he's been kinda gnarly his whole career so far. i think it's pretty fair to say both guys blow

How do you separate Crabtree's performance from the QB's that have been throwing to him?

he amassed a total of 1 yards yesterday despite Alex Smith throwing for 255 and 3 scores

a polished, NFL-ready top 10 pick should distinguish himself from Josh Morgan and have asserted himself as the leading threat in an offense with no other palatable alternatives, he hasn't

wouldnt there be an outcry if Rodgers was allowed to play the very next week after 2 different concussions this year?

No outcry from me, but I wonder how your average Packer fan would feel about this.

The trouble with brain injury is that you don't know if you've screwed yourself until you wake up one day and can't remember your wife's name.

It's really not something to mess around with. I'd rest him as a precaution, it's the 2nd one. But -- I'm no doctor.

I can't comment medically, but I think he needs to do whatever is best for his health. If he doesn't want to or cannot play then so be it. If Ted Thompson had signed a better backup QB in the offseason, this injury wouldn't nearly have the sting it currently does.

Aaron Rodgers is the Green Bay offense. A better backup QB would not help them beat New England.

I agree Jersey, we aren't beating NE without Rodgers, but I think a better backup could have won us the Detroit game. That's why I'm frustrated with Thompson.

Backup QB is overrated, especially in a league where star QBs make all the difference. It just doesn't make a ton of sense to invest heavily in backup QB for guys like Rodgers/Brady/Manning.

Right, until they get injured. Its not like Rodgers has had a clean bill of health his entire career. He took a lot of hits last year, and the line play has not been great in front of him. There's better options out there then Matt Flynn.

Who Todd Collins?

Shaun Hill, David Carr, Jim Sorgi all come to mind.

You run that risk. If Brady goes down so do the Patriots chances. That is life in the NFL. Backup QB is one of the least important decisions you can make on a team and in a salary cap league like the NFL where your starting QB takes all the practice time, it just doesn't make sense to whine about backup QB preperation to replace an All Pro caliber guy like Rodgers. It is a hell of a lot easier said, than done, to have a quality backup. Good backups want to play on teams where they are likely to play, not teams that already dedicate a huge portion of payroll to the star who has never missed a game.

Looks like his career is over unless he gets healthy and Frazier gives him one more game as a going out game. Brett did have a great career, but he sure turned it to crap the last few years.

Favre is inactive for tonight's game.

ITS OVER!!!!! The first week without Favre in 18 years. Now that the streak is over, it becomes much easier to sit him in other games. I wonder how many games Favre would have missed over the last 3 years if there was no games streak.

Posted
Also no Harvin, Hutchinson and Ray Edwards. All that combined with the homefield advantage being changed into a neutral-field game and it's bad news for NFC teams that wanted a Giants loss.

And so it ends.

Both Lou Gehrig and Brett Favre ended their consecutive games played streaks in Detroit.

Interesting.

What people forget is that Brett only has the consecutive games for a QB streak. Feagles has the streak for consecutive games started by any player.

The world morns.

And by the world, I mean nobody.
