So what are we looking at in terms of BCS bowls?

Title: Auburn-Oregon

Rose: Wisconsin-TCU

Orange: VaTech/FSU-

Fiesta: OU/NU-

Sugar:

I assume the Sugar will pick another SEC team, so we're looking at either Arkansas or LSU. Stanford will likely get a spot as the No. 4 in the BCS as will Ohio State (probably over MSU). There's also whatever crappy Big East team gets the bid.

It wouldn't change much if either of the top two lose this weekend. If Oregon goes down, we likely swap TCU and Oregon in the Rose and title game. If Auburn loses, TCU goes to the title game, Auburn takes the LSU/Arkansas spot and South Carolina goes to the Sugar with Stanford going to the Rose.

Stanford to the Fiesta, Arkansas vs Ohio State in the Sugar, and UConn in the Orange is my guess.

So what's ND's bowl situation now? Are they locked into the Champs Sports, or is there another that's more likely? Will they go to one at all?

is it b/c your school sucks so much that you're so offended by the ND no-bowl last year?

ND is likely to go to Champs Sports. They aren't locked into any, but that's probably the best offer they'll get and they'll take it.

And the most likely opponent from what I've been hearing is whoever loses the ACC title game. The Chick-fil-A bowl gets to pick before Champs Sports, but they haven't taken the ACC runner-up since their title game began. Either FSU or Va Tech would be an interesting matchup.

ETA: Although it's probably fair to note that FSU/VT is probably better, and certainly a better draw, than your average ACC runner-up. If the Chick-fil-A does go with the title-game loser, NC State or Maryland would await.

If Mizzou is going to fall to the Holiday Bowl, then ND's bowl situation is very relevant to me if the Pac-10 can't get a 4th bowl eligible team.

That would require Washington losing to Wazzu and the Champs Sports passing on Notre Dame (they get first crack due to the Big East tie-in). Possible but unlikely.

Thanks, that's what I was wondering. Makes me wonder who in the world will play in the Holiday Bowl if Wazzou and Arizona win this Saturday. Hopefully not someone like Louisville or South Florida.

Lynch out at IU.

Damn, who knew we had a football team?

I'm glad he's gone. He's one of the most embarrassing coaches that I've ever seen. He sucks too.

Lots of rumors going around saying Nutt going to Colorado, which I think is absurd. I doubt he would leave the SEC voluntarily and second he'd have to take a paycut of about one and a half million dollars.

FWIW, I've heard that we've been in discussions w/ the Peach Bowl whether we ended up in the ACCCG or not. That was our (FSU's) destination unless we were to end up in a BCS bowl.

boulder is way better than oxford, though. and colorado clobbers mississippi.

having lived in both, I agree.

However, going from 3.4 mil to 2 mil to coach way out there so far away from where he is from, etc. Unlikely.

But how many more seasons will he last at Mississippi before they fire him?

one more year of this bullcrap and he will be gone. He definitely deserves another year at this point.

sidebar: why do you write Mississippi instead of Ole Miss? I know that you see us referred as that in rankings and every now and then in articles, but I've never come across anyone in a casual conversation refer to us as "Mississippi". Maybe out of the south they do... I dunno.

He'd probably have more leash in Boulder.

As for the name, I've always thought of it similarly to Missouri/Mizzou or Washington State/Wazzou, where both get used depending on who you are or which comes to mind. I know I've used both for Ole Miss/Mississippi here before.

i completely agree with you. but what does "depending on who you are" mean? fans of the program v. rival fans (or disinterested fans). or did you mean by geography or age? I guess I've never thought of any particular group using any of those terms, though I've heard them regularly.

No real distinction, just whichever you've heard enough times that it comes to mind at a particular moment. If I've been reading Every Day Should Be Saturday, I'd probably use Ole Miss, but if I'm talking with co-workers and they use the other one, then I might use Mississippi next time I reference them. As for the others, I pretty much always use Mizzou like OleMiss uses, uh, Ole Miss, but I've never really thought of it as strange if people refer to my school as Missouri.
