Luck is much further ahead than Mallett. Mallett will impress with his arm at the Combine but will get a woeful Wonderlic score which teams won't like since he's a QB. Mallett should still be a top 10 pick. Don't sleep on Luck's athleticism. He can run and is second in the Pac-10 in rush yards by a QB behind Daron Thomas. I like Luck as much, if not more than I liked Bradford last year. Definitely like luck more than Ryan.

Since Luck is only a redshirt sophomore and a bright kid majoring in engineering at Stanford, there's thought to be a possibility he'll return for his RS junior year. If Harbaugh bolts, Luck is gone.

Locker isn't a first rounder but some team will take him. Nick Foles and Cam Newton are better NFL prospects.

Cam intrigues me, but he strikes me very similarly to Vince – great athlete, strong arm (stronger than Vince's), questionable accuracy. With the pay-for-play stuff swirling, I'm not sure I'd want him in the first round. He'd be a good project for a team with a good, aging veteran QB.

And I didn't realize Luck was that athletic. Definitely makes him a bit more appealing, though he won't be drafted for his legs.

And I liken Locker to Josh Freeman, great tools but not developed at all. He'll need to fall into a good situation to succeed, especially early on.

Why should pay-for-play stuff scare you off of Newton? NFL can't punish him for that can they?

No, but it could be character flaw type stuff. More the breaking the rules part than taking the money. The on-the-field questions are a bigger deal to me, the other stuff just doesn't help.

Obviously you don't draft Luck for his legs but his ability to move in the pocket under pressure and throw on the move will play well at the next level.

Freeman is going to cloud the judgment of NFL teams but Freeman came to the NFL much rawer. Locker has played for Sarkisian for two years and shown little if any improvement.

Luck in heartbeat just because he is a smarter and more athletic QB. Personally I like Luck more than Bradford. For whatever reason when I see Mallett I think of Cutler. I do like Mallett a lot too.

I was never much of a Bradford fan. I know I was in the minority, but I preferred Stafford to him 2 years ago. If I were the Rams, I might still have taken Suh over him, knowing what I do now.

I think the only reason Luck may not come out is because of a potential holdout. Snead and Locker have given him too many reasons not to comeout.

I hadn't thought about the lockout, that could definitely play a factor.

Yeah, having the movement in the pocket edge over Mallett will help him overcome the advantage Mallett has in arm strength.

Good point, I hadn't thought of it that way. Just out of curiosity, who worked more with the QBs at USC, Kiffin or Sarkisian?

this blown call really killed us, going from a 3rd and 11 to a 1st and 5 enabling them to then go up two scores

this happens all too often, pretty discouraging

Should have been a facemask instead of a horsecollar. They called the wrong foul, but either way the result was correct.

He's not just grazing the facemask, he's got fingers locked in it.

Luck is obviously the clear #1 but I think it could get murky after that. Mallett is probably the second best and he's who I would want, but what if Cam runs the table and impresses everyone in workouts? Easy to see a team completely falling in love with Locker also. Cam and Locker will either be stars or bums.

I think this could be a really good QB class but there's obviously a lot of hit and miss. I think Stanzi and Foles could be solid and have moved up. What about Kapernick? Ponder and Gabbert could definitely be good backups.

dew you nailed it. I've seen two Georgia games this year and Murray is outstanding as a prospect. I posted in the weekly thread after their Auburn game that I wish the Vikings could draft him this year.

I was a huge Matt Ryan fan when he was coming out. I will admit that I don't have much of a clue when evaluating QBs, but I really like Ryan for some reason.

I like Luck about 20X more than I liked Ryan though. As has been stated, he's a smart, RS Sophomore who values getting his education, and as Bradford showed, if he's the #1 pick this year, he can almost do nothing next year and still be the #1 pick in a year.

Nick Foles is the guy to look at if you want to fall in love with measurables. Can hold his own with Mallett in size and arm, but is much more athletic. Pretty raw though.

I'd rate the QBs: Luck, Foles, Mallett, Newton, then Locker. I also really like Ricky Stanzi and Christian Ponder way more than I probably should.

Unfortunately this gives the Vikings time to re-tool a bit and be playing much better football just in time for the Bears to roll into town on the 20th :(

Childress isn't why the Vikings struggled. They might get a bounce with the coaching change, but that will fade over the next three weeks' worth of games before Chicago arrives. Leslie isn't going to bring Moss back, and he isn't going to make Favre change his stripes. I'm not conceding that game until we see how the next three week's shake out.

I'm not conceding any game, but understood.

I'm not conceding any game either but it is gonna be tough. The amount of effort the Vikings put into their last couple of games is questionable at best. The Vikings are still relatively talented. They are better than other 3-7 teams out there you would think. The Vikings players supposedly hated their coach and were mired in a funk of controversy and undisciplined play.

Say Leslie gives them a little bump. Say they win a couple of games in a row. The effort is there, the players like the coach, and although the playoffs are highly unlikely, the team has a new common goal to finish the year strong to keep Leslie as their coach. Suddenly a Monday night game in the dome seems a lot more difficult than it did yesterday.

I'm not gonna pretend that Brett Favre is randomly gonna stop throwing INTs like he's auditioning for a role in ABC's movie of the week: "The Rex Grossman story". I'm not going to hide the fact that the Vikings are a bit banged up and the Williams wall is not the same as it was 2 years ago and the secondary is questionable, etc. But it will most likely be a more difficult game than I had hoped for, in the stadium we've won in only 1 out of the last 9 games there.

Favre is killing the team more than anyone. He's just lost it. He's playing every play like a gambling addict in the casino who's down big and trying to win all his money back at once. He flings every ball at a receiver to try and make a big play, even if its not there. Forget about checkdowns or throwing the ball away. And he's completely uncoachable at this point.

Chilly clearly lost the team. But as long as Favre is still playing, I like the league's chances against the Vikings.

Kapernick is probably rawer than Newton. Kinda like a Josh Johnson in Tampa. Not quite as polished as even Josh Freeman.

I haven't seen enough of Kapernick to know for sure, but is his arm NFL material? For some reason, he's struck me as a mobile guy who won't have the arm for anymore than a camp arm.

I had forgotten about Ponder. He's interesting, but probably won't be an early round guy, same with Gabbert.

I love Murray. I always knew he had a big arm, but he's shown a lot more mobility than I thought he'd have. If Richt can keep WRs around him who can catch, Murray should be a top pick pretty quickly.

Too bad Aaron Murray can't come out yet, I think he's got a shot to be really, really good in the NFL.

Definitely. I like him more than Matt Barkley if the two came out next year.

Doesn't Gabbert have another year left? Why would he come out early?

Also, my (biased) sleeper QB is Ben Chappell out of IU. He's not an NFL starter, but he can make every single throw. He's not very mobile, but is probably as tough a QB as I have seen. Takes a crap load of hits vs. the likes of Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio St, and this year, Illinois.

Kapernick's arm is strong enough for the NFL.

I had the same concerns about Bradford as McCoy (but on a smaller scale) – not convinced by the arm strength to perform in multiple offenses. Both I think may be West Coast/short pass type of QBs and would be limited should a coaching change happen.

I like Bradford's accuracy, but wouldn't take him #1 unless it was a down year – certainly not over Suh.

I just saw the picture and video of the Suh facemask play and have no idea how anybody can claim it should not have been a facemask penalty. It was the wrong penalty but should still have been a penalty.

Childress looks (physically) awful. He's put on at least 20 pounds and is even paler than he was when he took the job 5 years ago. I think he's probably relieved to have been relieved. I would be.

Kaepernick is definitely further along than Josh Freeman. Freeman couldn't complete a pass to save his life at K-State.

Gabbert will probably come down to the lockout. Unless he hurts himself, he's not going to play himself up or down with a senior season. Teams didn't even bother with film from Chase Daniel because of how different Mizzou's offense is from the NFL. Although I will say that most of what he has to work on is instinctual. His arm strength, touch, and accuracy have all been great this year, but he has poor pocket awareness that can get him into trouble. Ultimately, the feedback he gets from the league this year will be the deciding factor, in terms of where he would get picked, and what the CBA situation is like.

Freeman completed 58.6% his last year, 63% the year before. Kaepernick's numbers are similar but reversed Jr. vs. Sr. year. Plus, theres' the level of competition thing. Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Mizzou, and Oklahoma St all finished top 20 that year. Kaepernick's SOS is a lot easier than that.
