I'd really like to see them run 20-25 times for 40-50 yards, but I'm sure they're going all Martzy this week and not even trying to maintain balance in their play calling.

Actually, I bet they do exactly that...run 20-25 times for 40-50 yards. It was enough to keep the help keep the pass rush off Cutler to some extent last week.

Did that keep the pass rush off of him, or is it just that the Bills defense isn't very good?

If you're running for 2 yards per carry no one is respecting the play action or altering their game plan. Their best chance to win is to air it out.

Lol the Bears fall from 17th to 19th in ESPN's Power Rankings despite winning their game, a road game at that. People keep underestimating the Bills, but whatever. This isn't the 2008 Lions we're talking about here.

But this is good. The Bears seem to play better when they're disrespected by the media.

They've been disrespected the past 3 years and are under .500.

Imagine how poorly they'd have done otherwise

I guess we'll find out. Because I still think they're going to try to run it this week. If for no other reason, than to give Jay a play or two in a series where he doesn't have to worry about his head being separated from his body.

Yeah that's true. I'm not saying they should never run it, just that this media desire to strive for balance is nonsense.

Balance is very important, if you can't completely dominate with your pass game. And by dominate, I mean score points. That's why SD, Indy, and NO don't have to be balanced. And it's why Denver and Dallas (3 and 4 in pass yards per game, but bottom 1/2 in scoring) have 3 wins between them....because they need balance to win/score.

And the point isn't just to run 30 times and throw 30 times for the sake of balance. The key is keeping the defense OFF BALANCE.

If you run every first down, throw every 3rd down, and run on 2nd down only if your 1st down play is successful....you achieve balance, but you are also very predictable.

Couldn't agree more. I read the Chicago news stories, and the writers love to spew utter nonsense, particularly about the Bears. The running thing is a prime example. They get all this praise for barely gaining 100 yards rushing on a bad run defense. Take away Cutler, and the RB's rushed for 60 yards. And this supposedly opened up the game for Cutler's whopping 188 yard passing day against a bad pass defense, clearing the way for a 3 point win against an 0-7 team. I don't know what Steve Rosenbloom ever did in football, but he's totally full of it.

Let's see how this works against the Vikes. Because I can see a 2 yards per carry happening from Forte and Taylor.

Agreed. If it was a simple formula everyone would score often. It's a little more complicated that just saying "you need balance."

As with most things in life, sorry but you can't just boil it down to a simple checklist or formula.

Bears wearing their throwback jerseys again for this game.

Not gonna lie, I dig them. The block numbers are nice.

So much better than the orange ones.

Oh God yes.

Believe it or not, the Bills pass defense ranks 6th in the league in yards allowed (193.4), so Cutler's day was about average from a yards standpoint. The Bills are, however, 31st in QB Rating allowed (108.4), with only the Cowboys being worse. But Cutler did end up with a pretty good rating Sunday.

That's because teams run the ball down their throat so much.

Correct, and that pretty much confirms that our running game is atrocious. Not that we should expect anything different from a bad offensive line, mediocre running backs, and a pass-crazy offensive coordinator.

The one positive out of this season is the lack of orange jerseys around Halloween.

Take this FWIW but..

Paul Allen the play by play guy for the Minnesota Vikings mentioned that before the Carolina game last year that he talked to a friend in the Carolina organization who said, Julius Peppers always plays his best game against Bryant McKinnie and whenever Jared Allen is on the other team. Reason why? He really does not like Bryant McKinnie and some of it has to do with the UNC/Miami thing. And he tries to embarrass him everytime he plays him. And with Jared Allen, he can't stand it when people call Allen the best pass rushing DE in the NFL over him. And last year if you remember, Peppers dominated the game vs. Minnesota.

So what does this mean? Probably nothing at all, but if there is a guy I am watching this game, its Peppers.

He should be good to go, considering he took most of the last 2 games off. I kid. But he did.

but when you run for zero to one yard every time, it makes the next play that much more dangerous, especially if the next play is 3rd down.

they should throw until they are allowed to run.

Not actually related to this week's game, but former Bears' QB Jim McMahon says his memory is pretty much gone as a result of hits taken during his career.

that and the insane amount of weed he's smoked

Weed has no ill effects. It's a proven fact...or so my pot smoking friend tells me.

mcmahon did a hell of a lot more than smoke weed. and still does.

There's little question in my mind about this.

Mini-vacay is over big guy......time to earn a little more of that contract.
