The way the Bills played this weekend, I'm not sure this is a gimme. Someone talk me off the ledge.

I'm not a gambler, so I'm not sure the best places to check, but it looks like the Bears are a 3 point favorite.

Here's Dan Pompei doing his best to talk me off the ledge with a crazy optimistic article:

The bills have played well enough to win the last two weeks. If there's a team that can make enough mistakes in a close game to give the game to the Bills, it's our Chicago Bears.

This should be the last time the Bears are favored this season. And I don't really think they should be favored this week, at least not by 3.

@Det would be the only other place I could even conceive of them being favored...and that would depend a whole lot on the Bears winning some games between now and then.

They will be coming off Vikings, Dolphins, Eagles, potential 3 (or even 4) game losing streak. I don't see them winning in Miami on short rest. So it's going to take either a decisive win against one of those three or a win against Philly to give people a reason to back the Bears.

No can do. The Bills suck, yeah. But teams that suck will still pick up a win or two, and against a team in disarray like the Bears, this could very well be one of those couple games.

I'm not saying the Bills will definitely win, just that it's not out of the realm of possibility. Bears are vulnerable against any team in the NFL right now.

Just to nitpick, it's impossible that they'll be on a 4 game losing streak. If they lose their 4 games between now and the Lions, that will be a 6 game losing streak, since they already have lost their last 2.

They tied the bye this week!!!

I think the one thing in their favor with the Bills is they are coming off back to back disappointing losses, not just the one. After they barely lost in Baltimore I thought for a second the Bears were in trouble next week until I remembered the bye. I think the back to back max effort losses can be trouble for them. They are due for another big loss.

But they will move the ball in the air against Chicago.

I watched most of that Bills/Chiefs game yesterday. It was godawful, and Chan Gailey is an idiot. Fitzpatrick is a gamer but just isn't very good. But Gailey's playcalling cost them that game. They were in FG position to win the game, and Gailey comes out throwing the ball every play. Of course, Fitzgerald threw a pick and the game went to OT.

That said, KC played awful too but was able to run all over the Bills D. I hope Martz was watching.

I said it before the Seattle game, and we know how that worked out. But as long as the Bears don't completely [expletive] the bed, this is a 10-point win.

That's asking a lot of this team.

The Bears are 3-3 under Lovie Smith in games after the bye. I'm concerned about this one.

What are you talking about, kuj - the Bears aren't a 10-pointer over any team in the NFL right now. Just way too mistake prone and able to blow up at any moment to be given that kind of latitude.

The defense has the capability to hold teams under 2 TDs and the offense has the ability to score 24, but all the likely mistakes makes it impossible to expect it to happen in any game.

Who cares? Were they playing good teams?

It might have some merit. A bye week gives you an extra week to implement a game plan. Plus your players are generally well rested and a lot of nagging injuries are rested. So teams coming off the bye should have an advantage.

But 3-3 doesn't really tell us anything. 6-0 or 0-6 might.

Mike Martz says that Chester Taylor will be used for goal line situations.

"Chester is a great goal-line and short-yardage runner," Martz told the team's official Web site. "He's a low, powerful back and he's the guy that we'll use for that."

hey it only took them seven weeks and what, 10 straight failed goal line conversions to figure it out?

Just for fun I tried to look up just how many times we've failed from the opponents 1 this year. It is 10.

DET

3rd and 1 at DET 1 - Forte to right tackle -1 yards

1st and 1 at DET 1 - Forte to right guard 0 yards

2nd and 1 at DET 1 - Cutler INC Pass Greg Olsen

3rd and 1 at DET 1 - Forte to left guard for 0 yards

4th and 1 at DET 1 - Forte to right tackle for 0 yards

GB

4th and 1 at GB 1 - Cutler INC Pass Desmond Clark

3rd and 1 at GB 1 - Forte to right guard 0 yards

CAR

2nd and 1 at CAR 1 - Taylor to right tackle for 0 yards

3rd and 1 at CAR 1 - Collins INT intended for Devin Hester

WAS

1st and 1 at WAS 1 - Cutler to right guard for 0 yards, loses fumble

Of course with the case of the Washington game, he did actually score, but the fact that it went unchallenged just adds to it.

So 10 times we've run a play inside the opponents 1, 0 points scored, 2 turnovers, 7 runs stuffed for a loss or no gain.

Cutler 0-2

Collins 0-1, INT

Forte 5 carries, -1 yards

Taylor 1 carry, 0 yards

Cutler 1 carry, 0 yards, fumble lost

Impressive boys.

I really have to question David Haugh's sanity if he thinks Moss makes no sense for Bears. I can only assume he's written something about the potential for drama, and that is BS. The Bears have been drama free since the Super bowl and it's done them no good. I'm sick of the mediocrity and hoping everything can be calm and steady enough to finish 8-8. Go big or go home. This team has lacked a legit WR for a decade plus. Take a chance on actually being good.

No kidding. I don't think for a second the Bears would sign Moss if they could, but it's frustrating to hear that mentality parroted in the press.

David Haugh's writing has really disappointed me since he took over "In The Wake of the News". Something about that column makes those who write it lose at least half of their IQ.

Who was the last one? I honestly can't remember.

I'd say Willie Gault. There have been a few since then that were pretty good for short stints, but nothing you'd rely on for several years. Wendell Davis may have become something if he didn't shred his knee.
