How are Rose's MVP chances looking?

One thing I noticed is that the last MVP to be on a team with less than 50 wins was Iverson in 2000-01. The Knicks are going to be under 50 -- does Rose end up getting the edge as a result?

Amare's stock has dropped significantly since the Knicks came back to around .500. It's a lot more than Rose vs. Amare though. I think LeBron will be his biggest challenge. I know people won't agree, but I think based on how bad the Cavs are this year, and his jaw dropping numbers , he will be a serious contender, and probably win. I think Rose can win, but I think voters probably prefer not to vote him in if there's another decent candidate in the realm of Rose. The reason being that Rose is young and has time to win MVPs. If someone like Dwight Howard steps up in the 2nd half and puts himself in contention, I think he'll win it. Or Chris Paul or whoever.

i don't see why amare is even a candidate at this point. he's not really playing any better than he did in any of his years with phoenix. i know he's doing it without nash, but still.

he's a PF shooting under 50% from the field and averaging only 9 boards a game. i don't think that's mvp stuff.

he's just shooting a lot more this year

I haven't looked at the advanced stats or anything, and I don't watch all that much basketball outside of the Bulls, but I have a tough time believing Rose isn't the MVP. Or to use that stupid qualifier for the MVP, "the most valuable to his team."

I say this without as much homerism as I can, I think if they voted today, he would win. (Whether or not he deserves it remains to be seen)

I would think it will be difficult for Rose to overcome one of the more established names, like LeBron.

I could be wrong, obviously.

I think LeBron and Wade are going to split votes. Plus I think there will be some people who just won't vote for a Heat player. At this point, I think Dwight Howard should win it. He's having an amazing year and he certainly qualifies under that muddled "remove him from his team and see where they'd be" argument. Rose is really, really close behind though, in my mind. If he can pick up his shooting a bit in the second half and the Bulls end up winning 55-58 games, which seems likely, he'll have as good of an argument as anyone.

It does seem a little weird that the top 4 MVP candidates are all in the East.

Well the thing is, Rose is getting lots of pub right now as a legitimate MVP contender or even favorite. ESPN has him as the MVP favorite right now, you have people like Barkley calling him the MVP, several other people have jumped on the Rose is an MVP candidate bandwagon. He's gonna get a lot of votes. The hype isn't just coming out of Chicago.

But I still think when it comes down to it, like I said above, unless no other candidate steps up, a player that has more years in the league will get it over Rose, with the justification that Rose will get his some day. It's what LeBron went through earlier in his career too.

DWill should get MVP love, take him off the Jazz and they have maybe 5 wins this year.

You can definitely make the same statement with Rose, especially since Boozer missed the first part of the year and Noah's missed the second half.

It's Rose or James to me. FWIW sucks for Love that he's on the T'Wolves.

I'd love to see what he could put up with a good team. I think he'd still have killer rebounding numbers, but with better options than Beasley and whoever else, I think he'd have trouble maintaining his scoring numbers.

Agreed, and everyone has Rose as a strong candidate. No one ever mentions Deron. He has to be the most underrated star in the game.

Wade, Rose, LeBron, Amar'e, Howard in the East.

Paul, Kobe, Durant, Anthony, Yao (damn it, fans) in the West.

The East should really put up some points, playing 5 on 4 until the first round of substitutions.

(Yes I know he'll be replaced.)

true, but you cannot not give it to rose based on that. plus, the league needs another super duper star to win the mvp, they would be smart to push rose as much as they can.

Did he know that passing this off won't go toward his assist total?
