yea it gets tough again, but then it ends extremely soft

the last 17 games go like this

wash

nj

ind

sac

atl

mem

mil

phi

minn

det

tor

pho

bos

cle

orl

ny

nj

i kuje the way the schedule plays out. we get a bunch of softies at the end so we can get on a roll and head into the playoffs with a lot of confidence and momentum

we're predestined to lose that final game against the Nets, costing us a better seed

That's still probably the worst regular season loss we've had in the last 13 years.

Dexter's best and most accurate post in the Bulls thread.

Wait, so you're a Packers fan, a Cubs fan...AND a Bulls fan?

You must be carefully studied in the wild. My mind is blown.

And a Hawks fan. Not exactly breaking news.

This is getting uncomfortably weird.

Pretty close to when the dunk happened, so nearly a year.

I forget that not everyone blocks images.

It's still really weird.

I've had sigs and avatars off for so long that I've forgotten what my own avatar is now, honestly.

EDIT: Just checked...probably time for a change.

I know I've said it before and I know no good can come from me saying it, but I really don't like or get people that split their fandom across different cities like that, especially when its something like a Cubs/Packers fan. Its just gross. I know everyone that ends up this way has some great (boring) story about it (oh my dad was from Milwaukee and blah-de-blah-blah) but it still irks me in the worst way.

Still better than one of my best friends whos a Sox-Packers fan.

Not everybody is close enough to a big city to root for all its teams, not everybody stays in the same spot throughout their childhood, and not everybody has parents who have sports allegiances to pass down.

Weird things happen when young kids basically have to pick their own teams.

Actually most Packers/Cubs/Bulls/Hawks fans I know grew up in Chicago but grew up during a time where the bears sucked and were irrelevant and the Packers were one of the top teams in the league with Favre. So they turned their back on their Chicago roots and rooted for the idiot Packers..

Which begs the questions why the hell would you dump the Bears but not the Cubs? (which I guess the answer is probably Sammy Sosa)

I made a rant about mixed allegiances in the rants forum a couple of years ago, that I felt was generally poorly received. It just seems so weird to me to hate the Chicago Bears one day, and love the Chicago Bulls the next.

Me too, but there are so many. It's weird to me, but to many fans it isn't.

I guess it goes back to people rooting for different reasons, and their fandom coming from different places in life.

For me, being a sports fan is completely and totally tied to my life in the city of Chicago. It's about where I come from.

I agree. I hate these people

Nobody cares about them. If people are weirdos and root for teams all over the place, who the [expletive] cares. That said, even that makes more sense than rooting for all of your teams from one city and then having one team stand out from the rest, AND that team is such a hated rival of the city all of your other teams play in.

Again, think of someone rooting for NYC and Philly teams. It's madness, and quite possibly some intriguing form of schizophrenia.

It doesn't matter much to me. The only times I really think about the fact that the Bulls and Cubs are in the same city are when a Cubs player attends a Bulls game or a Bulls person sings the 7th inning stretch. It's different leagues, different times of year, and I barely even notice. It's not difficult to separate the team from the city in your mind when you don't actually go to the city all that much.

In short, as long as someone came to that rival team legitimately and not just because they were good when that person was a kid, it shouldn't really matter.

lol...I love that there's a "legitimate" way to have scattered loyalties.

I don't see many Cub/Packer fans showing up to Wrigley with a Packer jersey on and a Cub hat.

They may say "I don't care" but on some level there's an understanding that it's strange, and a hiding of one's loyalties in certain situations that goes along with that.

How often do you see Bears jerseys at Cubs games?

I grew up in North Carolina, in a time before there were pro sports teams there. So, I guess I can at least see how someone who grew up in an area WITHOUT pro sports teams could pick and choose from different areas based on certain players they liked growing up, possibly? Or maybe if there was a parent from a different area and passed down their fandom for a certain team?

I didn't do this personally, I got a Chicago Bears blanket(because there was a Bear on it) from my grandparents when I was 4 and decided then that they would be my favorite football team. I then looked at basketball and baseball teams from the same city and decided to like the Cubs, White Sox, and Bulls as well. My grandfather IMMEDIATELY told me that it's not cool to like BOTH the Cubs and White Sox, so he helped me choose.

As a gigantic UNC fan, I guess the one thing that COULD have gotten in the way of my fandom would have been if Jordan had wound up somewhere else. I would have been young enough at the time to where it's possible that could have sawyed me to whatever team he was playing on.
