Harden would make very nice Guzman insurance, given his stuff hasn't completely deteriorated.

I'll always remember how fricken awesome he was the first 2 months of 2008 when we got him. After that though he never was the same but showed flashes. When he was on he was right up there with 2003 Prior in terms of dominating performances

His second half of 2009 was pretty good

4-3 2.55era 12GS 67IP 44H 31BB 88K 1.119whip 11.8k/9

If he'd be willing to take a bullpen role, I love the idea of him being our RHP 7th/8th inning guy.

He didn't have Prior's control. But yeah, he was unhittable most of the time when he was 100%.

Who would be insurance for Harden? And wasn't he throwing in the mid-80's at times in Texas?

I looked up a few of his games on Pitch FX and it seemed his average four seamed fastball speed was in the low 90's towards the tail end of the season after his mid season injuries. The last game of his season his average speed was 89.81, maxing out at 93.1. Before that his average speed was somewhere between 90-91 and the game before that it was 91.63.

That being said he didn't last long in either of those 3 starts, pitching a total of 6 2/3 innings in the three of them. I think he got injured in his 9/11 start, he only lasted 2/3 of an inning

No one. The idea is that you get a couple of these great stuff, high injury risk guys, and you hope for 1 good season among them.

I wouldn't do it unless he'd take the minimum. With the Cubs budget, and the amount of capable arms in the high minors, we really shouldn't be spending significant money on guys with his injury history.

harden in the pen sounds like an awful idea

Why do you say that? He's historically at his best in the 1st inning/1st 25 pitches/1st time facing a hitter that day. The lighter workload could potentially keep him healthier too.

The knock is going to be he can't go back to back. But if you are going with a 7 man pen anyway, there's no reason why you can't have a guy that can't go back to back but is fairly effective for 1-2 innings a couple times a week.

Didn't he take a long time to get ready to pitch? Or am I imagining that?

i'm not saying it's not worth a shot or whatever, but he looked really bad this year in texas. Sometimes it looked like he wasn't even hitting 90 on the gun.

Aren't they the same person? or at least share the same arm?

No, they do not share the same arm.

No, they do not share the same arm.

So you're saying they are the same person but don't share an arm. That's weird. You're weird TT

harden's so ripped though, that with that shared arm he can hold himself and his spouse up for 20-minutes during an intense pushup fueled lovemaking session
