I listened to sports radio for a big portion of the day and I didnt hear anyone "horny" about the whatever nonsense you were talking about. I did hear people excited that we are 3-0 and beat 2 Super Bowl contenders. I also heard people talking about how many mistakes we made and we're lucky to win. I heard people say that they think the Packers are still probably the better team.

3 weeks ago we thought our team would be mediocre to bad. Now we've started out 3-0. We're excited, no matter how we've won the games. You came into the season hoping to get into the Super Bowl. So of course losing to the Bears in week 3 isn't going to as big of a deal to you. We're coming from completely different wavelengths here. Continously posting about how the Packers are the better team just makes you look stupid and bitter that you lost a game. Shut up and let us enjoy football.

Most of what I've heard on the radio or read in various publications is people saying the Bears are lucky and Cutler should have had five picks Monday. I haven't heard or read a single person (local or national) claim the bears are anywhere close to the top team in the NFC. Certainly there are people saying they have been better than expected, but nobody is ga-ga here (well, except Packers fans about their second place team).

ETA: Hell, look at this week's game thread. Half the posters expect the Bears to lose to the Giants.

Here are the rivalries that are bigger and more culturally relevant than the Bears/Packers (according to Joe):

Red Sox-Yankees, Celtics-Lakers, USC-UCLA, Cubs-Cards, Duke-UNC, Ohio State-Michigan, Alabama-Auburn, Army-Navy, Knicks-Heat, Cowboys-Redskins,UF-Florida State, OU-Texas. I'm sure there are more but those are the ones off the top of my head.

USC-UCLA?! Really?

It's a huge deal out west. Way bigger deal than Knicks-Heats is...anywhere.

Yeah, I can probably name 5-10 teams in the NBA that have bigger rivalries with the Knicks than the Heat. Hell, the Bulls probably have more of a rivalry with the Knicks than the Heat do.

Yeah, the Knicks-Heat was one of those 10 year rivalries. It was maybe one of the best 5 rivalries in sports when it was incredibly heated but when the Knicks tanked any interest in the rivalry went away.

It's kind of like the Colts-Patriots rivalry right now. That's still incredibly heated (not quite as much on the national stage as it was 3-4 years ago but still pretty big) but I just am not sure about the staying power once the key people leave the stage (Belichick, Brady, and Manning).

Judging by the size of this thread, this is obviously the most important game of the year for Bears fans and determines their outlook for the entire year. Sports radio today was loaded with Bears fans getting positively horny at the thought of what heroic efforts their players put forth Monday night.

On the flip side, I am able to look at this game for what it truly is: ONLY THE THIRD FREAKING GAME OF THE SEASON. There's a ton more football to play and you just have to learn from this game (as with all games) and all will be well. I've said it all along, I believe the Packers are the better team and this game did not diminish that opinion, loss aside. Only time will tell who is right.

Can you tell me what this horse will be after eating that plant?

I'm not a fan of these huge ratings especially because this game topped another Bear game from last year. ESPN and NBC see these numbers are going to want the Bears in primetime but I prefer the Sunday afternoon games by a wide margin.

Why doesn't ESPN put the games on ABC and get even more viewers?

I think that having the games on ESPN raises the profile of the network and ultimately helps ESPN more than having the games on ABC would. Maybe I'm wrong. But I know when there's a good game on MNF or the Bears are on, I leave the TV on ESPN all afternoon until probably an hour after the game even if I'm not exactly sitting there watching every minute.

ABC Sports is effectively dead. ESPN is where Disney is focusing their sports effort even if it is on ABC. Besides, Dancing with the Stars pulls in a decent rating and with a total different audience than MNF.

Are there really people out there that would tune into the game on ABC, but can't because it's on ESPN? How many? 2? 3?

Look...all trolling aside, let me ask you a few questions?

1) Has anyone here implied that this is anything more than the 3rd game of the season? Anything more than a win over a Packers team that was a Super Bowl favorite? Anything more than a surprising start by a team picked by many (including it's own fans) to be pretty damn bad?

2) How does the "better team" commit more penalties than they scored points? How does the "better team" have so many mistakes to allow the Bears to be so "lucky"? In the long run, maybe you're right...the Packers might be the better team. Like you mentioned (in caps)...it's the third game of the season, and we have to wait for the season to play out to see who is better. But on Monday night, the Bears were the better team. It's a hard concept for a lot of Packers fans...so it's cool if you don't get it...

3) It's worth pointing out that you were pretty pumped as well last year after the Packers beat the Bears....in the FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON:

LOL I'm so giddy right now. It's like I'm reading an opponent's game thread after a huge Cubs win.

1) I know we all realize this is only the third game of the season. However, my attitude right now is disappointed at the loss, but still optimistic for the future. Can you say the same as a Bears fan had the Packers won? Everybody can feel euphoria from a win (as you've seen from my reaction from one year ago), but it's how you take a loss that determines one's true nature towards their team.

2) I agree, the Bears on Monday night were the better team. I get it. I've never said the Bears didn't deserve to win. All I'm saying, and it seems you agree with me, is that only time will tell who is the better team overall. I believe it will be the Packers.

There are still those stubborn people who won't pay for cable.

They're fewer than ever, but still exist.

I don't think ABC is going to throw MNF back on the big channel just for them though. Like has been said, they've got other options that work off a different demographic.

Not everyone cares about sports like we do.

ESPN is the most expensive basic cable channel for providers to offer. In order for Disney to justify the price, they need to offer ESPN specific programming that people demand. You can still watch MNF games over the air in most, if not all, local markets (if your team is playing). And of course there's the point that if you can get 17m watching ABC and 17m watching ESPN at the same time that's a whole lot better than 17m on ABC and maybe 1.5m for whatever other nonsense you have on ESPN.
