new mexico is down 42-7; if that's the final score then they will have lost their first four games by a combined score of 222 to 38. worst team in i-a football?

At least New Mexico played a couple ranked teams plus Texas Tech. The only other winless FBS teams are:

New Mexico State (good year for the state so far) has lost to San Diego State, UTEP and Kansas by 125-47.

Akron lost to Syracuse, Kentucky and Indiana 111-33 plus lost to Gardner-Webb, a mediocre FCS team.

Eastern Michigan lost to Army, Miami (OH), Central Michigan and Ohio State 184-82.

And Washington State will probably be in the discussion by the end of the year. They lost to Oklahoma State, SMU and USC 150-54 plus nearly lost to FCS Montana State.

On a related note, remember this Washington State team? Definitely the worst BCS team ever.

New Mexico State was baaaaaaad. It's a little scary we only beat them 42-16. A good team hangs 50-60 on them easy.

if OSU goes undefeated, they will have beaten Miami, Iowa, Wisconsin, Penn State and Michigan, all of whom were/are likely to be ranked at the time they play them.

if Bama goes undefeated, they will have beaten Penn State, Arkansas, Florida, South Carolina, LSU and Auburn, all of whom were/are likely to be ranked at the time they play them.

Boise St. has NO argument to get in over either of those teams if all 3 go undefeated

no [expletive].

yet people will still try to argue for it

The pollsters still love them some Texas.

Yeah what the hell? Iowa goes two time zones west and loses to a top 20 team by a touchdown, Texas gets trounced by a bad team at home. So naturally Texas is in front of them. I also like Miami jumping Iowa while they were on a bye and Iowa beat a bad team 45-0.

NIU had over 300 yards of rushing against Minnesota last night. They'd be gunning for 0-12 if Dasher suited up for Mid Tenn State on opening night.

Hopefully they can rally. I want Brewster and Zook to stay in charge as long as possible.

I don't think there's a chance Brewster keeps that job after this season.

Miami trounced Pitt at Pitt on Thursday.

Ah, of course. I read Jon Miller's tweet complaining about it right before I posted that and completely forgot that I watched that game.

Some guy for South Carolina just jumped over a DB from Auburn and ended up kicking the Auburn guy right in the face. ESPN even slow-mo'd it - it was hilarious.

Stanford leapfrogs up from 16 to 9 (passing LSU, Wisconsin, Utah and Arizona) after beating the bad/overrated/irrelevant/etc Notre Dame team on Saturday. Wish that standard would cut both ways.

Good for the voters finally realizing Stanford is good.

People always talk about Oregon when it comes to the Pac-10 but I like Stanford more. Maybe it's the Big Ten fan in me but they seem to play more physical and I like that.

Are you asking that Notre Dame be given undue credit when they do win? Because I have some good news for you.

orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, it could be that they handily beat notre dame and a their blowout of ucla looks even more impressive after the bruins went to austin and won.

what would the standard cutting both ways lead to? after ND beats someone that team gets ranked 123rd?

There was basically nothing redeeming in Saturday's Tennessee game. We didn't turn the ball over much – that's about the only good thing – but the offensive line continued its quest to murder Matt Simms, receivers dropped open passes and Simms missed on a number of open throws. The running game was basically non-existent as well.

I was feeling better after hanging with Oregon for a half and playing Florida tough most of the game, but beating UAB in double overtime hurts that good feeling more than a little. I'm even more glad now that the coaching staff didn't start Tyler Bray since he would probably be broken in half getting hit as much as Simms has.

On a related note, are rules different in the NCAA and NFL as far as the rule about catches in the end zone? On a two-point conversion play Saturday, UAB tight end Jeffery Anderson caught a pass in the end zone, got both feet down, but then had the ball knocked out of his hand as he was stumbling out the back of the end zone. It was very similar to the Calvin Johnson play and yet they called it a successful conversion and confirmed it on replay. Am I missing a rule here or was it just a horrid call?

yeah, notre dame has been fairly lousy lately (only 3 BCS bowls in the last 10 years, yuck!) penn state was bad (and legitimately bad, not getting beat in a bcs bowl "bad") from most of 2000 to 2004. alabama sucked for a little while, so did miami, michigan sucked the last two years. these things happen. i don't recall michigan fans being all that upset when their team was awful RichRod's first year - they pretty much expected it. yet a lot of notre dame fans seemed to expect that they'd hit the ground running with a new coach, new starting qb and pretty average talent. there is no mandate that notre dame will be good every year.
