i checked the play by play and it looks like i missed a bunch of frustrating play anyway so good that i missed it, i can always check the highlights for the forte run

team is uninspiring at best, absolutely abhorrent at worst, this is gonna be a fun season

Who is the Bear lineman that gave up four sacks?

Pretty sure the "sacker" has been moving around, but mainly up the middle with Louis.

Chris Williams got beaten at least two times for sacks that I saw.

Williams got beat several times. Of the 5 sacks on Cutler. Williams gave up 2 (could have given up 3-4 more), one came from Louis' area. The other 2 I would consider coverage sacks, both from the man that was lined up over Williams (one was a stunt and it confused Williams and Garza).

Williams got burned a few times, but like Kramer said on tv...they'll probably give him some help if something like that happens in the regular season. I was pretty pleased with the O-line overall. There was some running room to be had. They weren't perfect by any stretch, but I'm seeing some improvement.

It was fun to see us call a sweep that worked. I don't think we had a single sweep play ever that worked under Turner.

I was really worried about the defense early, but we seemed to settle down there. Daniel Manning may be a great athlete, but he sure sucks at coverage.

Yep. He probably has the best straight-line speed on the team, but he doesn't have a football brain. Lovie wanted him because of his athletic ability, but he just can't produce. After he gave up the TD in the Super Bowl, he finally admitted that he decided to ad lib and throw the defense that was called out the window because he thought he knew better. He didn't and he still doesn't.

Yeah I was mostly happy with the run blocking, but the pass blocking was brutal.

Olin Kreutz was excellent in last night's game. I was watching on an off and on connection online last night, but saw most of the offensive plays. The OL overall did a pretty good job. Ran the ball well. Omiyale and Louis looked good on the right side. Williams has a problem with speed rushers. Help him out with them. Luckily, the Bears won't see a ton of pure speed rushers like Wimberly.

In watching the first half of the Raiders game, it wasn't a work of art and yes the pass blocking needs to improve but I was very happy to see Matt Forte show some burst and look like 2008 Matt Forte on that 89 yard run. Run blocking did get better, now pass blocking needs to follow suit. The defense started poorly but did seem to get better as the half progressed.

So............I am going to retain my cautious optimism for the 2010 season for now. Besides if the Bears actually looked great in the preseason I'd be more worried, usually it seems their regular season play is better when they suck in the preseason. I can't back that up with numbers, it just always feels that way to me.

Yeah I'm not putting too much thought into these games at all. The main thing I hope for is no injuries, and while we're a bit banged up right now we should have just about everyone back by Week 1 assuming nobody suffers a serious injury between now and then.

The run by Forte was amazing though. I knew he was hurt last year, but I don't remember seeing that kind of speed from him in 2008 either. Good to see.

The speed was good, but it was the cut to avoid that last defender that really impressed me.

It was a fine run. And it wasn't just that one time either. He definitely looked like he had more speed overall.

Good to see. We'll need him & Taylor to be solid if we're going to have any hope of keeping defenses honest.

Bears sign Todd Collins.

Comments?

Who caved? Bears give him more money or Todd Collins decide that being an NFL QB was a pretty good job?

Sounds like Collins might not just here for the preseason...

A week after trying to sign him for the veteran minimum with no guaranteed money, the Bears came back to the 38-year-old veteran quarterback and put money on the table. Enough for him to sign a one-year contract without fearing he'll be used as a camp arm and sent packing before the season begins.

It's believed Collins receiving a signing bonus in the six digits and if he makes the team he will earn more than $1 million this season.

I'm glad the Bears decided that cutting Alex Brown and his $6 million in an uncapped year was a good idea only to give back some of that money for Todd Collins to come in Week 6 after Cutler is paralyzed and lead the Bears to a 3-13 record.
