Not that Hendry is worth keeping the draft guy formerly of the Blue Jays, but if (when) Hendry goes, does draft guy leave as well? I like draft guy. I don't like Hendry and that other asshat in the front office who wears Hawaiian shirts.

I wasn't thinking about that when I posted earlier, but I like Wilken enough to where I'd keep Hendry around for another year, just tie his hands from making FA signings, to insure we don't lose Wilken. Who evidently IS extremely tight with Hendry, at the very least.

In a perfect world, I'd drop Hendry and keep Wilken, if it's actually just that easy of a decision.

Apparently Willken is buddies with Hendry so he probably won't stay if Hendry is shown the door. Small price to pay to be rid of Hendry, Hughes and Fleita.

Should Hendry get another chance? Yes. With another organization.

Maybe the Cards will hire him!?!?

And he will promptly win the World Series with them

Wilken sucks how could you forget the terrible draft pick of Tyler Colvin. That dude absolutely blows. Harveyesque bust.

Folks, we've all been getting this thread wrong (including myself). I just noticed this thread is supposed to be about some guy named Hednry, not Hendry.

still holding out hope that ricketts will hire beane. if he doesn't he should go, too

Beane would lose his "Genius" label if you gave him a big market team. I really believe Beane is totally overrated.

How was the Trachsel trade a horrific trade? He dealt two AAAA fillers likely with little to no value for a mediocre pitcher. It didn't make a lot of sense, but he didn't give up all that much.

He really hasn't made all that many bad trades. The Maddux and Pierre deals are easily his worst and I can't think of too many other particularly bad ones. His good deals far, far outweigh his bad ones.

BR lists Cherry and Moore in the Trachsel deal, but the Cubs also gave up RHP Jake Renshaw, a potentially intriguing prospect down in Peoria back in 2007 (who fell off the face of the planet in 2009). What ticked me off the most about that deal was the fact that the Cubs even gave up anything of value for Trachsel, who honestly was not any better than any of the AAA filler in the Cubs' system at the time.

Hendry's had some good trades, but one of his nasty tendencies is selling low on players. Felix Pie, Corey Patterson, Sammy Sosa, Rich Hill, Jacque Jones, Kyle Farnsworth, and Juan Cruz all come to mind. Also, a number of his bad deals tend to be ones that are easily forgotten or glossed over. Bill Mueller, Mark Bellhorn, and Michael Wuertz are some guys Hendry sold off for pennies. He also traded for such illustrious names as Tony Womack, Jose Macias, Aaron Heilman, and Neal Cotts.

I'm not saying Hendry sucks at trades, but I think some people on this board overrate him because of three really good deals (Nomar, Harden, and A-Ram). In reality, he's had plenty of bad trades.

I want to say the Mueller trade was before Hendry was GM.

Hendry became GM July 5, 2002, and Mueller was traded Sept. 4, 2002. It was one of his first moves.

Well, Happy 8th year anniversary! Guess he probably won't be getting fired today.

I'd happily accept Lou for another 10 years (if he lives that long) if we fired Hendry today and hired someone capable.

The manager has such a little effect on the outcome of a season that its not even fair. Look at 2008, Lou could have done all the finagling he wanted to do and we'd still have won 97 games.

Give a manager a good enough roster and he looks fine. (TLR, Girardi, etc)

First, the manager can have a sizeable effect on the season. Case in point starting Koyie Hill over Geovanny Soto. If you give a manager talented players but he insists on platooning them with untalented players, then the manager needs to go.

But Hendry doesn't deserve another chance, no way.

So the Cubs have 2 guys running the show that are pretty much clueless. It explains a lot of what's happened the past 2 seasons.
