2010 NBA Draft Thread

I think this draft kind of sucks and the Pistons are hosed at 7 but whatever.

Anyways when I got home a half hour ago I saw that NBA TV was replaying the '01 draft so I flipped it on while doing some work. You forget about some of the busts and nightmares from the mid 90's-early 2000's drafts. Some highlights:

-After the Warriors drafted Jason Richardson, the panel was confused to how he would fit in with Larry Hughes. Dave Cowens said that they're confident Hughes can make a smooth transition to point guard and "won't feel like has to shoot so much there." That worked out well.

-Eddie Griffin and Rodney White were lauded for their character.

-Rodney White was Rick Pitino's pick for rookie of the year.

-Desagna Diop comparisons to Olajuwon.

-Kirk Haston was the guy that Paul Silas was hoping would fall to 16.

-The Blazers had concerns about their dysfunctional team so they drafted Zach Randolph.

I liked when he said that Hughes would be a "natural point guard who will get better at it after he works at it."

Love the NBA Draft replays on NBATV. They were replaying the 95 one yesterday and Pitino was just clamoring about how great of a player Tyus Edney was going to be in the 2nd round.

Besides the interesting analysis, it's also amazing to see how far the presentation has come in 15 years.

Nets and Grizzlies may be interested in acquiring Chris Paul.

As would probably 75% of the league. I dont see Paul going anywhere.

Rumor also floating around that the Nets are looking at taking Wesley Johnson with the 3rd pick instead of taking Favors or Cousins.....

About the NBA Draft replay, I was watching the 1986 review, and the one thing that surprise me was that Dallas supposed had an offer from the Lakers that included James Worthy and perhaps even Byron Scott would head to Dallas for a package that center around Roy Tarpley.

I think the Nets are crazy for not taking Cousins 3rd. A Cousins/Lopez frontcourt would look pretty good for the next several years.

Until Cousins goes crazy.

Favors > Cousins

Favors > Cousins

Cousins NBA career > Favors NBA career. And i bet it won't be very close. All bets are off if Cousins goes crazy and commits a homicide though.

Well there's like a 70% chance he murders somebody in the next 20 years, so I don't know why you discount it so quickly.

I think Favors could be excellent.

Never liked Cousins much. His fat shoulders and that tight Kentucky uniform never sat well with me.

im glad i'm not the one totally turned off by him for mostly aesthetic reasons

Oh, and apparently Orton is freefalling out of the first round.

i think we take alabi with our first first-rounder and then probably a foreign C with our second.

Have they said why RE: Orton?

Is it concerns over his knees? The fact he barely played his only year of college?

Playing time shouldn't matter, see B.J. Mullens. It has to be some kind of health related thing.

Knees, conditioning and apparently he's been kind of aloof in interviews.

His upside is obviously high, but i guess teams are thinking they arent going to get anything out of him for a couple of years and there are too many health+question concerns to make that a safe bet.

You could do worse than tossing a pick at him though, and we have four, so ....

A lot of rumors flying about the Pistons using Tay's expiring to trade for Al Jefferson (Wolves then draft Favors) or trading up to get Cousins. Ford and Simmons both feel the Pistons are one of the ideal fits for him.

Of course this means we'll end up stuck at 7 with Ed Davis or Epke Udoh.

OKC just traded pick no. 32 to Miami for pick No. 18 and Daquean Cook

32+Cook for 18?

32 for 18+Cook. Miami's trying to shave cash for FA.

You know your cap rules are [expletive] when teams do things like this and what the Suns did for like 4 years in a row.
