Anyways, that's bad for us. Not because we can't get him, but because now the Knicks can't overpay for him. The domino effect is that NY will now go after someone else (and prob overpay) meaning there's 1 less guy available for us

LeBron or bust

It's bad for the Knicks. I'm glad we didn't overpay for him.

I think it's good for the Knicks in that it saves them from themselves. Sounded like they were ready to give him the max.

WHich is why I think it hurts us. Now the Knicks might be competing with us for a different player... one we actually want.

I'm not worried about them at all in terms of anybody that we have a high interest in.

But we really have no idea who the Bulls and Knicks are interested in, or what types of things LeBron's decision may hinge on. You never know how things are going to fall into place. LeBron may have a certain type of player he wants the Bulls to get if they're going to sign him, and maybe the Bulls whiff on it because the Knicks overpay for the last one available.

I doubt it comes to this, but it's possible. It's just not good that there is one less player out there when so many teams are fighting for the remaining guys.

It just would have been nice to see the Knicks give JJ the max and limit the rest of their options.

I would've given even odds that Gooden was out of the league.

Yeah, I googled him last night for some reason and was surprised that he played somewhere.

I will be so bummed if:

LeBron stays in Cleveland

Bosh goes to Miami via sign and trade to play with Wade

Johnson takes Max from Atlanta

Seemed unthinkable a few days ago, now looking really plausible. Oh well. A few guys still out there.

If you're LeBron and you know Bosh is going to Miami, don't you think you have to put yourself in the best position to contend? Seems unlikely that he would look at Cleveland and say, yeah, we can play with a Wade/Bosh-led Miami team for the next 5 years with this group.

People keep saying LeBron is the first chip to fall, but I think he's going to see how the teams shape up before he decides. At least, I would if I were him.

I think Bosh will go first, to the first team that can get a S&T with Toronto.

I'm not that well-versed in the intriciacies of the cap, but wouldn't a Bosh sign and trade coming first count fully towards the cap. In a case like Chicago where you can only afford 1 max (and the Raptors don't want Deng), doesn't a Bosh sign and trade mean no other top FA?

The sign and trade would clear cap space, presumably. They are very close to enough space for two max as it is.

Not unless they trade Deng it won't.

I believe that's correct. Deng would be where the cap clearance is. If they were able to do a S&T for say, just draft picks, I believe Bosh would count the same as just signing him outright would.

right. I think it counts against the cap. The reason to do it is to get the player (Bosh) money he couldn't get with another team while getting Toronto something back.

I either read or heard today that Toronto has no interest in taking back Deng, so I think we're out of that running. Unless Bosh wants to play for Chicago as a regular ol FA (b/c he wants to be on the Rose/James title teams), he's not going to be a Bull.

And in order to sign as a regular FA, one of him or James would have to take less than max.

So the Hawks have relegated themselves to 4th place in the East for the forseeable future.

No big-time FA is ever going to Atlanta, so for the Hawks that's probably their best move, sadly enough.

On Bosh:

Rumors are now that Toronto wants picks and a trade exemption back for him, meaning they want to deal with a team under the cap. Like Miami, not Houston or Chicago.

it depends how far they are under the cap and how much salary is going the other way. they don't have to trade deng to make room, there's room elsewhere, but there are also cheap, productive players elsewhere, too.

It's cause they know that David Lee is already signed sealed delivered to the Bulls at Max

You spelled Lebron funny.

right, unless the Bulls trade off some more cap space before July 8, which I guess is possible. But I think Bosh's preference is S&T. I guess if he's willing to come to Chicago even though it won't be via sign & trade, he might be willing to do it for a few million under max. I don't think so, though. I think Bosh wants to be in Miami with Wade.

I don't see any scenario where Bosh, Lebron, or Wade sign for under max.

And the Bulls CANNOT get 2 maxes without moving Deng. (Or Noah or Rose) Dumping the rookies won't get it done.

Agreed on all counts. I think getting both Lebron and Bosh is a real pipe dream at this point.
