+/- is a pretty crappy stat. But PER is pretty good. Both of them have Rondo in the top 5, which doesn't surprise me.

I'm no expert on this, but it would seem like +/- could be pretty misleading if you play a lot of minutes on a team that isn't that great

I am not an expert either, so I won't claim it is an be-all end-all stat

Does per put any value on true defense? Or does it just reward the guys who get a ton of steals, but can't guard a chair?

Yeah I think that's a problem with it -- just blocks and steals.

I figured, I love Steve Nash, but his defense has to drop him a ton when comparing point guards.

And Rondo's defense is really good. I know you guys hate him, but Rondo's better than Rose right now. I'd probably put him 2nd behind DWill

Steve Nash doesn't play defense. He just stands at half court and waits.

I don't hate him. In fact sone Illinois was his number 2 school before he picked Kentucky I have always kinda followed him. I just drop him because he is playing with three hall of famers. Probably not fair on my part.

Using +/- is a bad stat if you use it in this way. It is however a great stat if you are comparing a set of players on teams of similar talent. Daryl Morey supposedly uses this stat heavily. However, I've read he goes really deep with it. He doesn't look at overall +/- for a person. Instead he looks at +/- in comparison to others on his team and others playing similar roles on teams that are relatively equal to each other. That will show you whether or not the guy helps his team.

Rose's season PER is also misleading because he played injured for upwards of six weeks to start out the season, and his PER was terrible. I'm wondering if there's a place that you can get PER splits by month.

Also, at this point, Rose is past Rondo, defense or no defense.

Yeah I've actually read about that. And how he measures rebounders more effectively, something about team rebounds with a certain guy in the game. Don't remember, but Morey knows what he's doing.

It's rebounding rate that he loves and he talks about it a lot on facebook. Rebounding rate is the percentage between number of rebounds and number of chances for rebounds. This helps account for a guy having low rebounding totals because he is on a team that doesn't miss much or plays very slow and for a guy who has inflated rebounding totals because his team sucks or they play with a quick tempo.

He posted in January saying Scola was the league leader in defensive rebound rate. I ask him how he calculated it and that is what he said. Hollinger then posted saying Morey was indeed correct on Scola and that he was very surprised by it.

So basically what I am saying is I love my GM because he is a genius.

There aren't a lot of point guards out there generating more assists on much worse teams, CB. The Bulls are one of the worst offensive teams in the league (27th out of 30 in offensive efficiency, 28th in eFG%).

The Bulls are semi competitive because of rebounding, defense, and Derrick Rose.

And Joakim Noah.

What's funny is that what everyone said about losing BG and getting a healthy Deng back turned out to be true to a fairly extreme degree.

After the Salmons/Miller trade last year, the Bulls became one of the better offenses in the league but couldn't rebound or defend very well. Now it's pretty much the exact opposite.

And after watching the last 2 playoff games, the Lakers aren't making it past the Nuggets if they have to play them in the 2nd round.

The same Nuggets team that just lost at home to a banged-up Jazz team? I'm not seeing it.

Kobe drilled a shot from the right wing that was obviously a two-point attempt, but was ruled a three. No review or anything.

Edit: Looks like they're finally going to review it.

The only thing that gets Fisher out of the game is that he fouled out.
