Couple of upsets so far. Didn't get to watch any of the games but the Flyers beat the Devils, and the Senators upended the Penguins. Good stuff.

ottawa didn't play very well but neither did pittsburgh. lots of shaky goaltending in that series.

i only paid half attention to nj/phi, but it seemed like there were a lot of selfish plays by players on new jersey, not a lot of teamwork. they played well still, but they can play better. boucher was pretty solid, made a really nice save on kovalchuk early.

the first 5 minutes of phoenix/detroit were more exciting than either of the first two games though. the west is so much more fun.

I'm nominally a Wings fan, but don't follow the NHL basically at all. Trying to catch some playoff games though, starting tonight. I would really like to see Wings/Blackhawks to see my Hawks fan friends get riled up.

i see the sharks are up to their usual playoff antics

A Nashville/Colorado combo to reach the Conference finals is something I would very much like.

The cluster eff at the end of that Wings game reminded me how rare and awesome plays like the Parise goal in the Olympics are.

I have absolutely no idea how the Red Wings lost that game. They absolutely dominated the Coyotes. Talk about a tough way to lose a game.

I'm not complaining. Go Avalanche.

WOW Colorado gets a goal with 49 seconds left and beats the Sharks.

I still think the Sharks will win this series, but after what's happened to them in the playoffs in the past, there is going to be a lot of pressure and doubt creeping into their heads if they struggle in game 2.

Amazing, 3 of the 4 games had the road team winning, and the one that didn't, the team that was probably the favorite lost.

I hope this trend doesn't keep up.

Well, one more day would be fine.

3 for 4 on the PP is how...I think the coyotes were better in the 3rd and got pretty lucky that they didnt get a minute and a half 5 on 3 against with about 5 minutes left. It was easily the most exciting game of the night though

i don't think they dominated. they controlled spurts, but it's not like they were pumping quality scoring chance after scoring chance at bryzgalov. i thought it was a pretty even game and ultimately by far the most fun of the 4 games to watch.

I didnt see the whole game of course, but it looked like San Jose had no sense of urgency out there. Just skating around la la la la, I am sure we will win because we are better la la la la

i don't think there's any possible way they could think that. if i were on that team at this point, i would be so terrified of losing that i'd play tentative, maybe. afraid to make a mistake (this is joe thornton's problem, he plays like he's afraid he's going to have some deathly awful mistake that leads to the series winning goal for the other team). i don't think they can possibly be over-confident with how poor their postseason history is.

Anybody else feel like the crowd at the Pavilion was reminiscent of the crowd at Wrigley in 2008?

The Sharks are just mentally weak.

At the very least we can see them go deep into the series and play way more than they want to. Same goes for Detroit, although Phoenix should not be dismissed so easily.

It's funny, but because of some late runs/slumps, some teams got some really tough 1st round matchups.

I think Detroit is a threat to win the West, but Phoenix was probably as tough as a 1st round matchup for them. Same w/ NJ getting the Flyers. Pens should still beat Ottawa, but if they and the Devils were switched, I think both teams would be more comfortable.

I think the Blackhawks and Caps have the only matchups where they could completely dominate the series.

I'm nominally a Wings fan,

What? Why?

When I was a little kid, my older cousins were the only hockey fans I knew and they were from Michigan (and I lived in South Carolina, so I didn't have a team nor did I know jack about the NHL).

I've been called 3 times by the Devils in the past week trying to get me to buy tickets to this series. I made one purchase of expensive seats, which averaged out with 4 free seats meant they were cheap for our group and they think I'm a big spender and Devils fan.
