For whatever it's worth, we have 21 outs left to work with. Gonna need to work some good counts though.

Lay off the sinker, too. That's nothing but trouble.

If we lose, we are guaranteed a spot in the playoffs.

2007-lost Opening Day, made playoffs.

2008-lost Opening Day, made playoffs.

2009-won Opening Day, did not make playoffs.

2004, 2005 and 2006, we won opening day and missed the playoffs. You might have something here.

Ballgame. I'm out.

This is why I need to stop looking forward to things. It always ends in disappointment. If I think bad things will happen, then I don't get pissed off when they do, and if they don't it's a nice surprise.

Ok, who had page 19 of the opening day game thread in the "When will Erik call BALLGAME first" derby?

What did they do in 1908?

Not sure, ask Fred.

This, the 08 Cubs fought back and made games of these type games. I hope we at least battle a bit.

anyone who is watching this and doesn't care who wins should just go quit calling themselves a Cubs fan.

I'm not mad that we're going to lose, I'm mad that I've been looking forward to this in weeks and the game is out of hand in the first half hour and now the most entertaining thing is to watch all the hysterical sniping in this thread.

60% is great if you're getting popups. there's no reason to look at this in a vacuum when we all just saw what happened. maybe the game looks different on a 15" computer monitor, but zambrano was fine besides the hr that inning.

throwing the ball over the third baseman is not fine.

You have to miss bats to be effective. You also have to not walk 20% of the guys you face.

I don't see what's so hard about saying he was both bad and unlucky.

If a pitcher throws a perfect game, he would have to strike out 11 people to be under a 60% rate of contact. At the very least, 60% is not bad. How many pitchers strike out over 40% of the people they face on a avg?

Do you think the Cubs will win this game, IMB? Because if you do I'd like to wager one month of BAN on it.

But you're a little man who never backs up anything he says so you won't take me up on it.

They won in 2003, though.

You know, I really hate when idiots bitch and moan at the pitcher in innings like this, they just show how completely ignorant they are about the game of baseball.

Pretty much... this is why half the board stops doing game threads after a week or two.

But then you would miss all of Erik's hilarious overreactions.

Exactly. It's fun being the only one (apparently) who ever criticizes the Cubs for anything ever.

Shut up and go watch a bunch of Europeans kick a ball around a lawn.

ZING!

Stop disproving my theory.

If there is one thing I want the Cubs to do before the year is out is that they need to stop referring Zambrano as an ace. Cause Z is no ace.

A perfect game with 11 strikeouts or fewer is incredibly lucky on the pitchers part. That's why they are so rare.
