Hanner Perea to IU.

Good news.

( :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: )

It's going to be hard to imagine an Indiana team with legitimate size!

Perea thinks that both Zeller and Yogi Ferrell will follow him (along with him already putting in a call to Gary Harris to recruit him). I'm a little more skeptical about if that's going to be true. The key is still Zeller...if he comes Indiana will likely get one of the highly rated guards in the 2012 class. And if that happens, would that not be enough to consider them a legitimate threat?

The last Indiana teams with any depth in talent/size in the frontcourt were the 2001 and 2002 teams. Before that, I'd say 1993, but, then again, a frontcourt injury was that teams undoing. Not quite there yet, but with Zeller the frontcourt shapes up nicely.

I agree, Zeller is key. I think if they get him -- and I think they're the favorites now -- they'll get one of the Indiana guards. Zeller may be the fulcrum, but I really, really, really want Ferrell. Love him and think he's a perfect fit for Crean's system. I suspect his recruiting is still up in the air. Harris I'm dubious. Hollowell I think there's a decent chance.

If Crean pulls out Zeller then one of the guards, I think that's enough for them to be considered a legitimate threat. That would be a heck of a roster.

I'd bet my savings on Harris not going to IU

and haven't the zellers been pretty bad at college basketball thus far?

Luke yes, Tyler no. Tyler won a starting spot as a freshman on a future National Champion. He's battled injuries, but he's been pretty good.

You're thinking of Alan Henderson. I believe it was a knee injury.

I know who I'm thinking of. I'll never forget it. Tore his ACL in practice when IU was No. 1 and running away with the Big Ten, returned for the NCAA Tournament but was nowhere close to healthy. That team losing is probably my lowest sports moment ever.

Almost a repeat of the 1975 season, when they went undefeated in the regular season and were ranked #1, but lost their best player (Scott May) due to a broken wrist late in the season. They lost to Kentucky by 2 points in the regional final but would have almost certainly won if May were at full strength. Knight has always said that was actually his best team, not the undefeated national champions of the following year (and I think he's right about that).

Apparently Iowa reported violations in having recruits meet Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher. I didn't even realize this was against the rules.

Ashton went to Iowa didn't he? I know there's something about not being able to have alums recruiting for you.

He got kicked out before he graduated, iirc.

I think he just dropped out but I don't really know.

How's that any different than Harrison Barnes meeting Michael Jordan though? Maybe because Jordan played. Or maybe the NCAA doesn't really care that much and Iowa just wanted to avoid trouble? I don't know.

MJ just *happened* to be there at that time (oddly enough, UNC's biggest 2010 recruit's official visit came on the day MJ and other famous alumni were on campus...what a coincidence). If Jordan had just contacted Barnes, it would have been a violation.

I'm still not sure what the big difference is. Are they saying at UNC they just kind of bumped into them and didn't know they would be there but Fran knew Ashton and Demi were at Kinnick and then arranged for them to meet?

I've also read that the violations are because they watched some of the game in the press box/suites when you're only allowed to visit that area in the pre-game and halftime.

what are you going to tell the IU alumns next, that scott may is sean may's father?

Sean May played basketball at North Carolina and is now the worst player in the NBA :) :) :-s

That's what they're saying at UNC. I don't know what's going on at Iowa.

But Augustine just fouled him again. That whole "amazing" UNC team has really knocked em dead in the pros.

Zeller was at IU this weekend for a visit I believe. I guess that is a good sign that Perea announced his intent while Zeller was visiting?

Yogi was there too. :good:

Myck Kabongo decommits from Texas. He's supposedly looking at Duke, North Carolina and Syracuse.

Maryland PG Quinn Cook will decide between Duke and UCLA on Thursday. Sounds like Duke.

He supposedly still has Texas as his favorite, he just wants to go take some more visits to make sure. Still that sucks. Luckily Barnes has pulled pretty much every kid from Findlay Prep in NV so I still have hope, and he is good friends with Tristan Thompson and Cory Joseph if they are not one and done's.

I keep hearing Duke. Why is K going after committed kids so hard now?

Kabongo is also close friends with Austin Rivers.

IG, I don't mind because I hope that makes Quinn Cook realize he's being recruited over in his own class (and will be recruited over in the 2012 class). Anything to get Cook to UCLA.

I understand, I just hat to see the college basketball game go down the road of college football in reguards to no coahces honoring the kids commitment.

Yeah that sucked, badly. Still, Todd Leary's lights out shooting almost gave IU the comeback win after being down like 8 to Duke in the last 40 seconds. Henderson was never really the same ever again. That team was loaded. Henderson, Calbert Cheaney, Brian Evans, and Damon Bailey were all on that team and at least 1 of them was on the All America team every year from 91-96. Cheaney was POTY in 93.
