Cole played fine, I have no issue with keeping a carrot out there for Jereme for a few more games.

I just think it sends an interesting message to future recruits. A McDonalds All American is setting behind Billy freaking Cole. Our last two Mr. Basketballs can't start for us. I hope it doesn't last much longer.

 

So you think Paul and Richmond should both start now.

Nope. But either one should start over Billy Cole. You pretty much have to start McDonalds All Americans, unless you are Duke or UNC and have other ones in front of them.

 

Or if you start Brandon Paul over him.

 

Or you're Wisconsin and you redshirt him.

Oh yeah Jereme is just like Brian Butch.

Yes, but Butch wasn't ready to play as a frosh. Jereme is.

 

And he is. And he will. I have little doubt Jereme will be playing the majority of the minutes by the UNC game. He played 17 tonight, 25ish sounds about right when he gets in the flow.

I don't have problem with it for the time being. I will have a problem with it if Jereme is coming off the bench going into Big Ten season. I can't see this arrangement lasting much longer than the games in NY though.

The longer it has taken the more confident I've become about IU's chances, but I still really don't know. It would be big to get him for perception as much as anything else. He's obviously a huge name in-state. Losing out to UNC would be understandable (though still a little disappointing). Losing him to Butler would be agonizing. Edited by soapy

Depends on who you listen to I guess. I think IU has a solid chance here but I'm far from calling it a lock. Just have to wait and see. Yeah I think getting Hanner helps and also it should help that Yogi is likely to commit to IU if Cody commits. At least that has been the line of thinking for while now.

 

Apparently this will be a media only event, some people are reading bad things into that. Maybe Cody doesn't want a bunch of nutjob fans mobbing him, lol. The event will be streamed live on the local Washington radio station 107.9 FM.

There has been some late buzz about Butler still having a chance. But it is hard to know what to believe tbh. Each fan base feels they are the team he will choose.

I guess I need to stop reading so much into people's opinions on Peegs and Illinois Scout board, because I haven't seen an IU fan with a doubt about getting Zeller on either of them. That's why I thought it would be such a damning miss, but if you don't consider it a lock, and he's not a make-or-break recruit (on his own at least, I do agree that he'd go a long ways towards convincing some others to follow him.)

Don't get me wrong, our fan base will crap a goat if we don't get Cody. I won't even want to read an IU message board if that happens, heck we had people saying Crean should be fired last night when we were trailing to Ferris State in an exhibition game LOL.

 

Ultimately I don't really think Cody is necessarily a make-or-break recruit although obviously as we both have acknowledged it could have a ripple effect with other recruits like Yogi. People do have their hopes up about it and it seems the common theme is that signing Cody would be symbolic of IU finally regaining control of the state of Indiana on the recruiting scene.

 

End of the day I think Crean has done everything humanly possible to woo the kid. He started recruiting Cody very early on in the process has been involved with him a while now. So if Cody chooses to go elsewhere I don't think it is a mark against Crean necessarily (kind of depends on Cody's reasons I suppose). We'd have to just move on and we would still have a shot at a very good 2012 class. But yeah I'd rather just see Cody commit and not have to worry about the other side of the coin.

 

I'm just taking the cautious optimism approach, that is all.

This is how I'm looking at it, though I don't think many IU fans are. Cody will be a big candidate for let down if he goes to IU because people think he's better than he probably is. It's more about setting a tone in-state and getting the top players than it is what he will actually do in an IU uniform, in my opinion. There's also obviously the hope for some dominoes falling, once Zeller commits (especially with Yogi).

Tyler would have to play more than 11 minutes per season for me to make a comparison.

That's kind of what I thought too. I don't think I would be all that excited for the guy, but that's probably not fair since he isn't his brothers.
