Tom Crean spazzing out on twitter about the game time for their game at Illinois:

I just heard the craziest thing. It must be Ashton Kutcher and his PUNKED show or a April Fools joke a few weeks early.

I heard the Big Ten network is moving us to play at Illinois after we play Wisconsin at 9 o clock Thursday at 11 on Saturday. IN THE MORNING

There is no way that could be true is it? What was the 8 a.m. slot taken?

I feel like we should jump in some vans, put the 8 track tapes in, get some cheese sandwiches and have a old school road trip.

I am okay with 1 day in between games on occasion but 36 hours? In a rivalry game? That defies rationalization.

Come on out Ashton. Where are the cameras? This isnt funny . U got me. We have been punked.

He's [expletive] crazy. If they fire him next year, it's going to be like Christmas for Purdue fans. They'll lose those monster recruiting classes they have coming in and who the hell is going to take that coaching job?

It is an awfully quick turnaround. Only 3 Big 10 teams will have to play on 1 day rest at any point during the Big 10 season (Iowa, Indiana, Northwestern). The other 2 had games that started at 4:30 and 7:00.

But my guide shows only 1 mens game being shown on the Big 10 network that day. If all the other Big 10 games are on CBS/ESPN/ESPN2 and if the Big 10 network was contractually obligated to show a game at noon then it's not their fault that the IU/UI game wasn't attractive enough to the other networks.

If they had the freedom to move it, they should have moved it to 2 or 2:30 (to not interfere with the women's games that are on that evening). Really, the Big 10 shouldn't have planned a 1 day rest time when all the start times were left TBD anyway.

There is a school of thought though that it's unprofessional for a coach to publicly complain about anything no matter how legitimate and Crean is definitely on shaky ground in regards to his professionalism.

He sounds like a very intelligent, well-reasoned individual.

And HCCF appoves of this sentence.

Couple minor corrections on your post CCP.

OSU will be playing on 1 days rest tomorrow against Illinois (I smell a conspiracy)

CBS had the option to pick this game up for Saturday or Sunday, since both teams suck, it got shuffled to the BTN. Kenpom has IU playing Wisconsin on the Wednesday before...was that game moved?

Good catch on Ohio State. They will end up having the easiest 1 day rest of all 4 (coming home from an afternoon game to play a night game).

As far as I can tell the IU-Wisconsin game time and date was also not set until late. So it wasn't moved but there was potential earlier in the season for that game to be on Wednesday instead.

He isn't getting fired next year. He has a 10 year contract and his 2012 recruiting class will buy him more time if nothing else.

That being said, I wish he would just keep his mouth shut and deal with it. Or talk to the Big Ten office about it in private. Crying about it on Twitter just looks bad imo.

FWIW since I just read it, here was what Fran McCaffery said about Iowa's similar turnaround. They played at Northwestern on 8 Thursday night and home against Michigan on Saturday afternoon.

I look at it from a practical standpoint. You can't have it both ways. We want the Big Ten Network and you want to be able to tell your recruits that every game is on national television, then you have to adhere to some of the rules that are a result of our TV package. I think it was a brilliant idea by Jim Delany. A lot of people didn't think he could pull it off. Mark Rudner has a difficult task of scheduling all the games so there aren't any conflicts. That is another brilliant idea. You can argue that you are playing Thursday-Saturday and at odd times or that we don't want to play on Sunday. There is always going to be a negative byproduct to what we are trying to do, so you have to weigh the positives and the negatives. I would be a major proponent of the Big Ten Network and doing it the way we are doing it, knowing that when we are on the Big Ten Network there is no one in competition with us and living with the odd starts or Sunday afternoon games.

Yeah, he's not getting fired. It's absurd to even discuss it. However, he really should keep his mouth shut about this -- or complain in a more dignified, less petulant manner.

The guy is the laughingstock of the league. Tell me one coach in the Big Ten thats less respected outside of his own program right now? Also, I heard Collin Hartman was at Mackey on Sunday watching Purdue beat Ohio State. That's odd.

Gary Harris and Jeremy Hollowell were there too.

Purdue also invited Kendall Stephens, Basil Smotherman, Bryson Scott, Raphael Davis, and Jay Simpson to get a preview of what they'll be seeing as Boilermakers.

it's indiana and he has been recruiting well. if you recruit well at indiana you can walk around pantsless and rape nuns. they don't care, as long as the those guys have 4 or 5 stars by their names the fans, alumni, and administration will be satisfied.

Based on what? Message boards? Other than reading this thread I've never seen him referenced as a laughingstock anywhere else. Of course I don't make it a point to read rival teams message boards either. But on a national level I've read nothing of the sort. I mean I am sure opposing fans find him annoying (even some IU fans find him annoying) but what, he is going to get fired for THAT? lol. He keeps recruiting like he has been recently and he can wear the San Diego chicken outfit on the sideline while he coaches.

What is ultimately going to get him fired is the bottom line results, not him clapping or annoying people on Twitter. If he still can't get the job done in the W/L column once Zeller and the 2012 kids are on the roster, then the heat will be on him big time.

Wow, that was amazing. :hello: I will have to use that one. :D

Indiana isn't Kentucky. IU fans may be very -- very -- forgiving of boorish behavior from their coach, but I think the program/fans/school have proved that recruiting/winning is not the only concern (after an obviously gigantic misstep).

Sampson wasn't fired until they were forced to. After the truth was coming out, the fake Assembly Hall was belting out Kel-Vin Samp-Son clap clap clap clap clap.

I would have fired Sampson immediately and would agree IU waited too long (believe I argued something similar on here at some point). However, IU ruined what was, at the time, an oustanding season -- you can say they should have done so earlier, but very, very few programs (if any) would have fired a winning coach mid-season with that team. The decision to fire Sampson was supported by a large majority of fans. Further, the support the program has received over these three miserable years also attests to my thesis. I wish things would have gone differently and IU did not act perfectly, but they remedied the situation about as well as possible. That's not to say recruiting/winning is not important, or the most important thing, but it's pretty clearly not the only concern.

And I promise you this IU administration -- thankfully, after the curse of so many utterly incompetent ones -- cares about more than winning as well.
