Hoping we see 8 minutes for Joe and Crandall tonight.

Yup. Get them some tick, they need it.

last 10 minutes or so should feature a whole lot of Bertrand, Paul, Head, Griffey, and Leonard

As long as Illinois can keep shooting higher from the field than from the line, they'll be fine.

You must be forgetting the nightmare that was the 07-08 season.

Tonight's game: unconscious offensively, great defensively. Still allowed 22 more shots than they took, despite rebounding 31 of 37 offensive misses. Turnovers are a huge problem, and are going to screw them one of these days when they stop hitting 2 of every 3 shots.

In 3 conference games, Illinois is shooting 86 for 133, or 64.7%. That's unreal, and likely unsustainable.

Now that was an encouraging win. Dominated the paint and the perimeter, hit their open shots, slashed to the bucket well, passed well. Lost focus a couple times (after the initial three point burst and Leonard's dunks), but pulled it back together really quickly. Really balanced, overall.

Having said that, NU was sleepwalking. This was their third game in six days, and they looked like it. It was probably a combo of tired legs and lack of effort, but NU is a better team than they showed tonight.

Next, they have to win in Happy Valley, because after that, the schedule takes a turn for the hellish for the rest of the year:

at Wisconsin

vs MSU

vs OSU

at IU

vs PSU

at NW

at MINN

vs PU

vs MICH

at MSU

at OSU

vs IA

at PU

vs IU

hard to predict anything with this team. but i will say that they can shoot. they have long periods of not being able to find a decent shot, though. i really like how efficient they've been behind the arc. they haven't fallen in love with the 3 even though they've been hot and they've really been exploiting teams down low.

i don't expect it to continue, but this is a great start.

You think?

It is, but it isn't like any of our guys are shooting way above what you would normally expect from them. We have a lot of good shooters. The highest on the team is DMac at 52%, I think he is near that as a shooter now that he isn't having to bail out the offense all the time like he had to in years past with a contested 25 footer. D.J. was the best shooter in the Big Ten last year so he's probably gonna keep this up, or be at least close to it.

the shots they've been getting have been good and they've used the 3 to set up the interior game. they haven't been hitting a lot of wild shots, they're just good shooters.

One more thing about last night: Weber deserves a lot of credit for having the team extremely well prepared to deal with NW's offense and defense. They played like they knew exactly how to handle every situation NW threw at them on both ends, aside from the turnovers.
