Gus Johnson will be doing the Illinois @ Iowa game Dec. 29th.

He's even more exciting to listen to during a huge upset.

Yeah Gus is going to bring some magic with him. And he's going to have a ton of fun saying Melsahn Basabe.

Hey that's not how that was supposed to work.

John Shurna is ridiculous.

10-for-11 from the field last night and is now shooting 62.1% from 3.

Please make the tournament.

They have a good chance of going undefeated in the non-conference slate, and they blew out the only name team they played thus far (Georgia Tech). Their toughest non-con game would be a potential game at Madison Square Garden against St. John's next week.

To add: The toughest thing for Northwestern to do to grab a tournament spot will be stealing a home win or two against the conference upper tier (Ohio State, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan State...they don't get Purdue at home), and getting as many road wins as possible against a conference without a really weak team (Iowa and PSU are the likely weakest, but even they aren't slouches this year).

With the non-conference schedule as weak as it is, I think they'll have to go 8-10 or better in conference to get at-large consideration. Their Big Ten conference schedule works out pretty well for them, though, as they get 2 games each against Iowa, PSU, Indiana, Michigan and Minnesota, and don't travel to Ohio State.

It's depressing that Iowa got to the point where they improved to not being slouches. I think I hate Lickliter more now than I did in April.

Tulsa's AD turned down the KU job. I guess it makes sense, why go from one C-USA school to another. More of a lateral move.

word is the contract had a lot of language in designed to protect the university from future scandals in the wake of our last AD's use of his position to get expensive gifts, abuse of the private jet, and failure to catch the ticket scandal that was happening right under his nose.

Cunningham didn't like the wording and decided he couldn't sign the contract. Not sure how I feel about it personally. I understand the push to have tighter control on the AD with more checks and balances. But on the other hand, we can't be so draconian about the language in the contract that it prevents qualified candidates from signing on the line.

You can make fun of the fact he was Tulsa's AD, but he's a name on the rise, with experience as a head guy (Tulsa, Ball State) and a lengthy stint at as an assistant at Notre Dame (before they started killing students.)

I think that more attention should be drawn to the fact that KU wanted a man named Bubba to supervise all of their athletics. And he said no thank you.

Jeff Goodman[/url]"]Michigan State coach Tom Izzo has been suspended for Saturday’s game against Prairie View A&M after committing a secondary violation in which the Spartans employed an “individual associated with a prospect” at a camp this past summer.

This is a rule that went into place recently intended to cut down on the number of elite camps throughout the country. Coaches are no longer able to hire a person associated with a prospect to work a camp.

The violation occurred during the annual Michigan State Boys Basketball Camp – according to a statement released by the program. The individual was paid the normal rate of $475 for five days.

I'm glad they're enforcing the potential secondary violation suspension so quickly.

Did anything end up happening with those rumored rape investigations of unnamed MSU basketball players?

Mark Dantonio gave them the option of whether they should be allowed to play, so it's all good.

lol, pearl loses another one. this time to charlotte.

Maybe they should put him back on "suspension". Oh, wait. He's only suspended for like two days total time.

Tennessee's gonna play 8 games in 2 days? That's gonna be brutal.

And no putting lipstick on that pig... Tennessee got beat by a terrible team tonight. If they don't get this garbage figured out, they're an NIT team. I don't think that's gonna happen, but losses like this are embarrassing.

The teams they're playing are so bad that 6 of the games will essentially be forfeits.

Unless things have changed, he's suspended for a total of around 40 hours:

- 8 games during game time (around 2 hours apiece)

- 2 hours before game time

- 1 hour after the game

That's probably less than the time he spent making illegal phone calls and throwing illegal parties.

Yeah, offensively this reminded me of last year's USC game. Just couldn't hit anything. It's really disappointing after two big wins over Villanova and Pittsburgh.

I think we'll be fine, but it is discouraging to drop this one to Charlotte.

IU did something last night that I've never seen. They got out to a 24-0 lead on SIU-E. SIU-E scored its first points 8:54 into the game, but those points were from the FT line. They didn't make their first shot from the field until 7:05 was left in the first half. Yep, 12 minutes, 55 seconds of no baskets to start the game.

After building a 24-0 lead before any points allowed and 35-4 lead with no FGs allowed, the rest of the game was only 53-50.

Despite complete and utter domination, IU still turned the ball over 17 times, sent a team that couldn't score if their lives depended on it to the line 23 times.

i think this is the cougars first year in division 1.

It's their 2nd or 3rd (I live 10 minutes from campus). They're full members of the OVC starting next year. But yeah, they're awful.
